Add a glidelock bracelet and you have the best of both!

In the OP’s defense, he said “settled on”, not “settled for”, as was misquoted above. Totally different connotation.

The glide lock is too long in my opinion. I have tried both and ‘settled on’ the gmt clasp.

If you change the clasp there is little if any difference.

Congratulations! You can’t go wrong with either. I have big wrist and love the subC myself

Great idea! The glidelock is long and the GMT clasp is a great one.

I also owned and sold a 114060. Loved it, loved the clasp and having a brand new watch but at the end of the day the 14060 case and size was right for me. If I could have both I would!

There's just something about the curves of a 16610..

Nice job with yours.

I want the older GMT clasp like on the 16710. I have no use for the divers extension that makes the sub clasp long and bulky IMO.

That looks great. Also, your 16610 must of been one of the last ones because it has the rehaute.

Very happy for you. I’m with you, I prefer the 5 digit Submariners also. I own three in various models. I recently purchased a 6 digit Sub and they look and wear very different. Almost like they are different watches. Also, I don’t understand all the hate for the clasp. Of course compared to the glide lock it’s inferior, but it’s not terrible. I find the bracelet very comfortable

Own both 6 and 5 digit. I go for 5. Sry just can't explain why.

I don't get the hate for the old clasps to be frank. Yeah the newer clasps are nicer (My sub hulk and BLNR) but I love the older clasp on my 16622 YM clasp. I actually like the look and slimness of the older clasps. Less bulky.

The 6-digit is a great looking watch. But the 5-digit is what I lusted after for so long. That is the one I had to have. I won’t discount the possibility of owning a 6-digit in the future.

I am glad Rolex has enough variety to satisfy so many watch lovers.

Debated for going 5 or 6 digit. Went with 6 digit for the glidelock and ceramic bezel. I know for a fact I would scratch the bezel. Yes it can be changed easily, but wanted a watch I could scuff up and not care as much. I will definitely be adding a 5 digit soon. Wish I could get my birth year, but I believe that is the red line one and out of budget (74'). Am I right on the year?

Both red and white text 1680s were in production at the same time. There wasn't a specific year when only red Subs were made. It's rare because fewer people wanted the red text and it was priced higher than the white text version.

Went with the 5 digit also. Picked up a nos G Series in 2010 and glad I did.

Would like to add the easy link like Robbyman has but can’t find one for love nor money so will stick with the original.

Thank you for the knowledge. Saw both on Google images and was confused. Maybe there is hope then for a 74' submariner.

OP - congrads and wear it in good health.

And here’s some pics of the clasps which shows what I mean about the sub clasp being unnecessarily large for my purposes since I have no use for a divers extension. Ideally I’d like to replace the sub clasp with one similar from my GMT.

My personal favourite sub is the 16610. Classic looks with mostly new technology.

For tool watch like submariner, I also prefer the metal bezel instead of the bling ceremic one. Here are mine:

Thanks, very interesting! I went through a similar exercise with the 14060 and 16610, opting for the non-date, eventually. I still want to add a 114060 and see if it sings to me. I‘ve never been a fan of the super case, but am growing towards more bulky designs, so let‘s see which one it will be, in the end.
