In the short term I don't see it surpassing SD43 prices. I suspect it will stay at current levels for a while.

Sell at a price you're comfortable enough with that you can buy back in if you decide you want another.

Simple answer - if you need to sell to purchase a grail, then sell - life is too short.

If you don't need to sell, then don't!

Totally agree. I’m not saying the SD4k might not EVENTUALLY go higher than now, but I think this is going to be as good as it gets for a while. I mean it’s already up near $3000 if you bought it Grey, that’s an incredible return already.

Those same adorable features are what lent a hand to it costing almost the same price as the SubC on Grey market though :p

We’ll see, maybe I’m biased as I’m wanting to find a mint model for $9k haha
Just saying for shts and giggles - I’ll bet there are numerous posts out there from the past post 16610LV discontinuation saying basically the same thing.

Hard to imagine that the SD4K won’t see some sort of a big run up down the line given the short production window and favorable more traditional case size/no cyclops etc etc etc.
Mine is a keeper and I really enjoy wearing it.

Look I’m in total agreement about it being an awesome watch. As I previously stated, I want one and will eventually buy one.

However, I keep seeing posts like ‘favorable case size, better features’ etc etc. If you’re speaking about general perceptions, thi simply wasn’t true while it was in production. To be quite frank, it was like an ExplorerII, they sat in cases forever......

When the SS market settles, we will see if the SD4k’s current price is driven more by hype ab discontinuation, or more just rising due to everything else rising. We can only speculate until then

Don’t disagree however also look at the current surge for 5 digit GMTs.
Concurrently there is just more demand, more hype. Etc.
2018/19 will be interesting to watch (pun intended) as to what happens on the secondary market and if Rolex starts shipping actual watches to customers.

Definitely agree

This current market is unknown to all of us, there truly is no telling what's going to happen. Last Janauary if you told people a SD4k would be 10500 and a Sub would be 9000 in just 15 months, they'd laugh in your face. SD4k is the most interesting to me though, as it has two factors to account for: the current SS scarcity along with being discontinued, but replaced with what some say is a 'better' model. Interesting indeed.

Who you gonna flip this to in UK? WF and the like will offer poor bids, and private will also be lesser plus the hassle. Not worth doing unless you have a better watch for you to buy, take the money out.

Keep it, if there's any way that you can. Wearing mine as I type so I'm of course a little biased

Sell it and a few years from now you will realize that the SD4k was the grail. Except you won’t be able to afford it anymore....

If you can get your grail without seeking it, keep it. It’ll cost more to buy back once you realize you miss it. I just did this. That’s my experience. Missed it and am back in the club. It cost me.

I say hold on. I wished I kept my white ss Daytona. I won’t make that mistake with my SD4K. I love mine and couldn’t be happier as a 3 year owner.

If you’re not loving it and jonesing for something else then move it on. The SD4K would be a keeper for me but it’s yours and not mine.

Buy and wear the watch that you really like, instead of keeping a watch that you already are thinking about selling for it may go up in price. What price do you put on the pleasure of seeing your 'grail' on your wrist?

I've been lurking around pre-owned sites and the availability of the SD4K seems to be dwindling at the moment. One popular dealer had two examples listed and it looks like the one listed for $11,375 is sold. Doubt he took less than $11k for it given the demand.

Cruise the dealers and 116600's in nearly mind condition, box, hang tag, papers, etc. seem to be drying up at the moment at $11k with some sites asking +$12k.

If you're going to sell, now is an opportune time for sure!

Disagree, watched them on this forum sit unsold at 11k and they had to drop to 10’s (and perhaps even lower to actually get a sale). If anything it’s slightly went down lately.

Not trying to bust your bubble as I know you recently bought, but ya

Believe me, I have no axe to grind here other than thinking it is a good time to sell.

Strictly from a economics perspective per the request from the OP. No comment from me about the collectibility, an investment, blah blah blah... just saying it's a good time to sell.

I’m just saying the prices are a bit optimistic.

A guy has a 20x worn one for $10,999 OBO on the classifieds and it’s sat for weeks now. A mint one sold on here 7 days ago *asking* 10,500, and I’m pretty sure he had done multiple drops.. A mint one is listed on Timezone yesterday for $10,650 OBO. Prices are definitely slowly trickling down, so now probably is the best time for OP to sell, you’re right.

If SS stock improves (or simply Sub and SD43 stock) I see us back below $10k listings on these for sure.

That's my thinking... if he bought at the AD retail or used he stands to gain a good chunk of change in his pocket.

Win win from my perspective from a strictly gain/loss perspective. Not often you can find a hobby now days where you can enjoy it and still make some money!!!

It’s crazy that for the ENTIRETY of 2016, you could easily walk into an AD and get these for 10-15% off retail. Haha, what a turn of events!

True, but you know the saying about hind-sight!

Here's the thing... if you have the disposable income and you get that much enjoyment out of a Rolex watch, then WTF, go buy it and enjoy it!!! You may pay a bit more for it now but that's the market... what you don't have is a crystal ball for the future and "time" in this life is finite!!!

For those who don't have the income, work hard, save, get advice from the TRF and get that cherished timepiece!

I have a 116600 I bought BNIB last year for a little over $8k. I just looked at Recon-OMG USED for $11.5k? Granted these are from, ahem, "trusted" sellers, but still...this market has gone mad.

Demand now is only from watch enthusiasts knowing it is discontinued. 2 years ago I was having lunch near CH jewelers in Milpitas, CA and they had one sitting right next to SubC. Even the sales people were saying they can’t sell it when a SubC date is sitting next to it. I myself, not knowing much about SD4k, couldn’t see why anyone would want to buy it over a sub.

There was a time when everyone wanted an smg E46 M3 because it was easier to daily drive and the 6sp manuals just sat and were deeply discounted. Fast forward to present day and a 6spd M3 is worth so much more than the common smg transmission.

Smg = sub
6speed = sea dweller
