I was on the fence too and just sold my D-Blue 116660 and waiting now for D-Blue 126660.
I considered the potential of 116660 as it had such a short production run and really being the reference originally associated with JC story but in the end I realized that I just want the "better" watch. IMHO the new reference has substantial improvements and because the original gradient blue dial hasn't changed it's a no brainer for me. Adios 116660

Rolex Deepsea D-Blue: 116660 or 126660?

I know it’s not on here but I actually prefer the SD4k- to me it just has more of that classic Sea Dweller ‘feel’ to it. I’m just a purist I guess.

I’ve tried to love the Deep Blue - and have almost bought it 3 times...but changed my mind right at the end. I m going to have to stick with the standard DSSD. I also prefer the tapered bracelet.

I like the 43 - the red line — but I’m a no cyclops SD guy. And I know they tried back in the day to put it on the originals and all that, but that’s just my .02

Although I did not had the change to try the new one, I know for sure that I will keep my original 116660 James Cameron

I have the 116660 in black and prefer the look of this over the new one.
When I first tried it on when it came out I thought that it was a ridiculous looking watch on the wrist. A few years later I tried once more and bought it.
With all its imperfections which have been rectified the new model is a very sleek looking watch. Much more main stream.

The older one has its own charm, pure function over form, which appeals to me more.

For a daily wear watch, given the choice, I'd go for the new D-Blue, with the longer minute hand and newer movement.
Narrower bracelet of the 1st gen DSSD never bothered me, so that's not a draw.

With respect to collectibility, who knows?

I’d say the 126660. The changes they made really have made a huge differences to how the piece feels and wears.

I'm really thinking hard about the new one. I like the changes, and while I love my black dials my next watch will have some color to it.
