+1 Never settle for anything less than what you really want. If you settle now, you'll be farther to what you really want.

Almost happened to me.

Was just about to buy a SeaMaster.
Stared at it for awhile at the AD... imagining it as a Sub.

Went a few stores down and bought the Sub.
Best decision I ever made.
At the time, the SeaMaster was 50% cost of the Sub.

Buying Tudor now would only push Rolex ownership further into the future. Wait for your Rolex.
Interest in my Tudor’s was relatively short lived and have all been flipped....and replaced by another Rolex.

My thoughts also. I wasted cash on 2 Omegas before I figured out what really made me happy.

The answer to this is no.

I bought my Tudors because I like them.

Buy what you like and don't worry about the brand or about holding value.

Buy watches that you know you will keep.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with wearing a nice looking inexpensive watch like these Orient watches.

You probably spend more than the price of these watches partying on the weekend and the majority of people will think that they're as nice looking as any watch that costs thousands more.

Don't let people control what you wear. No one notices watches as much as one thinks. Really they don't. Those that do are WIS and will appreciate a quality watch. Yes, i feel the PCL are a bit blingy. for $100 yo can have them polished as I did.

Again, don't let other people dictate what you wear. The people you're worried about, aren't worth the energy or time to worry.

Nope. Bought several Rolex and ended up with a lot of Tudors.

If you want a Rolex, buy a Rolex and sack up and tell the people that ask (they never will BTW) that it is a Rolex, cost $9000, and that even though your iPhone tells time you like the look of the watch and it makes you happy.

If you have the Rolex bug the Tudor is not going to satisfy you for long. Tudor is a great brand that stands on its own, its not a Rolex wannabe at all and I love both of mine. I think a safe bet is go for a Black Bay eta, enjoy it and try to keep it but it won't hurt you when or if you want to flip it for the Rolex.

I started with 2 Rolex, then discovered Tudor. Each was purchased on its own merits. No thoughts on resale value.

It's the opposite for me. I bought a few Rolexes and wish their lugs were like Tudor's.

That's tough for me. I do get the work situation piece, as I had was in the same position when I first purchased my first Rolex (Sub). I was a little self conscious as I was also in a junior position but you'll get over it. I also purchased the BB Red b/c I liked the design/colors so much after my Sub. However, it didn't receive as much wrist time as my Rolex.

My advice is buy what you like the most and don't look back. I do think if you get the BB58, you'll still think about the BLNR, and perhaps not so much the other way around. IMO, Tudor BB58 is no BLNR but it's quite a first piece of watch and you can't go wrong either way. Good luck!

Buy a used Tudor from a TS to wear whilst you wait for the BLNR, then you can either keep both or sell the Tudor with little loss.

Personally I prefer most of the Tudors over most Rolex, I think they're broadly better looking and more interesting.

OP, I was recently in a very similar position. I’ve been lusting after a BLNR for quite sometime, however between the AD wait list demands and greys charging excessive pricing, I decided to move on in the interim. I came across Tudor, didn’t know much about the brand other than hearing about it once or twice and really liked the design and brand pedigree.

I was drawn to the Black Bay lineup and specifically the Black Bay Steel...something about the matte dial, brushed steel bezel, red line of text, and date feature really sang to me. I found a great deal in the classifieds from a TRF member and had the watch on my wrist 3 days later. It hasn’t left my wrist and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it already, more so than I thought.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m still planning on getting a BLNR in the near future but I haven’t found myself wishing my Tudor was a Rolex. If anything, I’ll have two amazing watches and won’t feel the need to pick up a Submariner while I’m at it !

A little bit of background – I work in finance and am at a relatively junior position. The BLNR is quite flashy with the PCLs and I am still not 100% sure whether I will wear it at work.

I have been taking a good look at the Tudor Black Bay 58 for the last 2 months. The Rolex equivalent of the BB58 is of course the submariner which I would like to own one day, however financially it doesn’t make sense at the moment. I also think the submariner and the BLNR have quite a lot of similarities so for me it doesn’t make sense to have both if those are the only two watches I have. The Tudor is less flashy, love the look of it and the snowflake element, it is quite different from the BLNR as a whole. Another positive is that it will be easier to sell the idea to my wife!

The two negatives are that it will not retain value well if I want to sell it and the bigger worry is whether I will wish it was a Rolex instead...

Please share your thoughts!
If you want to wear a Rolex to work, do what I did.
Buy the Exp 39mm first then save the dosh for the Submariner later.
These two watches are a perfect combination!

Best solution is to get a Rolex AND a Tudor. But if only one, get the Rolex. There's a feeling of the watch being "special" with Rolex that you won't get with Tudor. I love my Black Bay, but I can tell you it's a different feeling when I put my Sea Dweller on vs the Tudor.

I would say this.... those who buy and wear a Tudor do so because they know what they have and they get enjoyment from wearing that particular piece. Anyone who gets a Tudor settling for this when they want a Rolex instead will be disappointed as it is NOT a Rolex. A Tudor can most definitely stand on its own. I’m small fry here but I’ve flipped two Rolex watches to get to my Tudor and I couldn’t be happier.... those who know, know they don’t need to question anything.....

Just get the Rolex and forget about the Tudor, don't settle for less.
And wear the damn thing to work, no one will notice it's a Rolex.

I'd wait... It's not the one you really want

I bought a Tudor on a whim once, it lasted 2 months before I sold it at a loss

+1

In the long run, actually more expensive to not get what you want, because you'll eventually get it, and would have wasted money on other watches along the way.

Been my experience, and seen too many others go through this.

You'll wear the Tudor, but no matter how cool you think it is, you'll wonder whether you'd be happier with the BLNR on your wrist.
