That is irrelevant in this case because the Daytona is being offered @ retail.

If the OP goes and sells the AP, he will pay more for the Daytona elsewhere, so it's a wash money wise, but lopsided against the OP in terms of effort.

That's right. The money is approx the same if the deal goes as described.

They keys are:

1) Does OP really like Daytona over AP Diver?

2) Will the AD give $9500 in trade as hoped for?

The AP is old which the AD will fixate upon, but try and push for a better price.

Agree with this.

That’s my read on this too

If you can grab another grand out of the AP I think you win by buying the Daytona

In fairness it’s a reasonable deal. No dealer is going to pay retail and the op has no concerns dealing w private party (payment, robbery, etc). The Daytona is purchased at retail and if he were to ever flips it, he’s up min 3-5k and he has the watch he wants. It’s not relevant that one is an ap and the other is a Rolex, as the market is dictating the prices. I would do the trade, but I’m biased toward the Daytona.

This sounds about right. Trading in never really works in our favor. The dealer has to make money. You are in turn getting a very very hard watch to find at retail. I would take the deal and run.

Agreed, IF you really want the Daytona over the AP

Case study. Years back I sold an Omega Aqua Terra at a high discount to a college kid who I met on a forum like this one. Box and papers. Fairly new watch is almost mint condition. A day later he texts me saying I sold him a fake watch. I walked him through the papers. Then he said I sold him a grey market watch. I walked him through the receipt and the online AD. Then he says the watch was broken when I sold it to him and he wants his money back. In parallel, he posts an urgent thread on the same forum - in a complete panic saying he had just bought an Aqua Terra the day before ... left it on his dresser overnight ... knocked it off the dresser to a concrete floor in the middle of the night ... and now it lost 20 minutes the first day. I directed him back to his own thread and never heard from him again... but the entire hassle wasn't worth repeating if I don't have to.
Brilliant tale lol

I think that is reasonable, (On a trade-in @ an AD) going for the 10k...but having said that I wouldn't take a dime less.

Excellent advice. Davidsw is very fair with pricing.

Totally agree. The AD is in business to make money. How bad do you want the Daytona? I would keep the AP and tell the AD that I would simply like to purchase the Daytona.

I'd go for the Daytona.
Better if you sell the AP yourself but it doesn't sound like that's an option
You'd still be ahead getting the Daytona either way.
