There are many reasons people would prefer to refrain sharing their home address, particularly on a forum where people display expensive watches.

That said, I’ve received items from probably half a dozen members here and never thought twice about it. Small gifts, beer from California, two really nice books one from a local trf member and one from England. I’ve sent gifts as well. A rubber b strap, beer etc.

I’d move on and respect their privacy.

I have the same thing going on at another forum, I have a giveaway with some Basel stuff and I got a PM one guy want it.
Then I ask for his address and he never come back.

I guess some don't want to share their address and that is fine with me but many can use their work address for example.

You’ve tried to do a nice thing, not everyone will accept that. That’s not your fault, nor something to beat yourself up about. Who knows, he may have had a bad experience, or be having a bad day.

Main thing is your heart is clearly in the right place.

My details are worth at least a section of good pasture grass and a Semintal bull. Your bartering needs more work.

Absolutely correct. Many police reports start that way.

Paul,
You’re trying to be nice. They are just trying to be safe. I see no fault in either position nor would I take offense from either position.

I can understand your frustration. Don't allow it to change your generosity and kindness though.

You might have a kind heart Paul, many people don't. So this person was just protecting themselves. They could have been more polite about it. I once got a PM from a poster that you all would know that was so vile and dark. My guess is that had I reported it they would have been banned. Actually it was concerning. So you never know about people.

Seems strange as you were doing something nice for him in return for something nice he did for you, this wasn't just out of the blue which can be quite invasive, so unless he forgot he did this nice thing or didn't mean for you to take it like that then he should just politely say no thanks, not needed etc.

Sounds like someone was in a position to do you a nice one and did so.

No reason to get upset. Some folks like to do a nice thing and have it end there. No payback or fanfare.

Be grateful and pay that forward to someone else one day.

I’ve been politely turned down when asking for an address to send a gift!

If it politely turned down then I’ll happily move on but I would be annoyed with a rude reply

At the end of the day it’s the thought that counts

Honestly, I wouldn't share my address with Paul, either...you post something about a vacation and next thing you know, you walk outside and here standing by the car ready to go!

A member here that I've only talked to (on the forum) a couple of times and didn't know had a lenghty post about how a part on his watch was discolored and wanted it to be under warranty and that he couldn't get it.

This happened many years ago before he became a moderator and I of course felt sorry for him so that day when I went to my Ad I of course bought the part for him.

Just like you Paul I sent him a PM and asked for his address so I could send him the part.

Guess what, not even a courtesy reply!

A week later another (to me completely unknown) posted about the same part so I made the same offer to him.

He replied immediately and I sent him the part and he later started a thread thanking me.

Moral of the story, after that I stopped buying parts for ungrateful people and never approached unknowns again.
Hey Mon, I got this spot on my wrist but no watch. Wouldn’t mind a Platinum Daytona but a Platinum Day Date will due. Promise I’ll even create a thread and thank you even f you only send a Ceramic White Face Daytona.

I don't have any such issue, let it be known that my address is available to anyone who wants to send me gifts!

Paul, you are a really nice guy. Don't worry about it.

I see why you'd be bothered. The intention was well meaning, so be happy you tried and I'm sure the other party didn't mean to offend but just didn't want to send out any information he did the have to.

As I told you when I saw you this week don't take it personally.

An Idea: Since you bought it, have one already and were going to give it away... Do a TRF Give Away? If anyone wants to enter they can, if they win, they pay the shipping and you send them the item.
