OP, don’t take it personal. This is the way ADs are doing business now. Granted, it may change for them in a few years.

Do you really WANT the watch? If so, then either pay the new “market pricing” or keep your money.

If I’m buying something from any vendor which has marked prices and ask for a discount I’m never put off if the answer is a no. I’ve already decided the sum I am willing to pay. Same goes for goods without marked prices - what’s the price it’s worth to you? Beyond that simply walk away.

The sarcasm is obviously unnecessary, but maybe he had already been asked that same question a dozen times that day by non serious buyers. Not always easy to discern the difference - especially if the first question is “what’s the discount on ...”

I wouldn't buy from somewhere that has poor customer service unless the deal was too good to pass up. There's plenty of stores to buy from, buy from someone who shows you respect or possibly buy from someone lwho might not have had excellent customer service but have great deals.

You're right. I don't buy anywhere that doesn't have good customer service. I seriously have never had anyone flat out give me sarcasm while shopping. My local guy is nice. I'm going to give him a visit.

Sorry, what's the issue? Perhaps I am missing something, but a brand new buyer w/o a history with an AD has absolutely no leverage. The dealer is free to tell you whatever he or she wants. You're free to take your business elsewhere. Free market.

20% to 25% off. The SS market has nothing to do with the two tone market. They are completely different entities. Just like the PM market is different from SS and TT. They aren’t tied together nor dependent on each other.

If you have a local AD that’s offering you a fair price if encourage you to give him your business and start to build a relationship. It will save you a lot of time and headaches trying to shop around in the future.

Depends on the watch and your patience. Certainly their are certain watches that you pay a premium. And I don’t buy those watches. No impulse purchases. I don’t mind buying pre owned in really good shape. These are luxury items and I have lots of time and know lots of sources after 20 years of watch collecting. I’ve bought out of the US for favorable exchange rates. I don’t mind grey market at all. But I know this bugs many people.

If a dealer says no, that’s their right. They know they will sell at retail. Just not to you.

IMHO the seller did nothing wrong. On the other hand, you could have addressed the price issue in a better way, more courteous, if you really expected to close the deal.

Wouldn't know as I'm Male and a handbag is not my style

I do suggest you consult with a few of the big well established watch sellers here on the forum, as they might provide you with a better discount on a TT watch than a AD.

To be candid, you may have come across as "window shopping". I am not sure how the whole conversation took place but doesn't seem rude to me. I would personally asked him if he would price match.. That at least shows him that I am serious.

Rolex AD is not a flea market where you can expect a discount. The shop doesn't need to give anyone a discount. You buy or walk away.... :)

OP: don’t be alarmed. Dealers of watches do not take to completion the same way car dealers do, largely because they don’t do the volume.

I totally get where you are coming from. In the last several months, I have approached several ADs inquiring about a discount on a Platinum Daytona. ADs reactions have been all over the place. Several reacted the way that you have described, and others were much more gracious when I told them the best deal that I had been offered. There is a way that a salesperson (or even owner of the store) can react without having to get snippy and sarcastic. I have no interest in going back into an AD where they have acted that way. Ultimately, I acquired the watch from DavidSW, but honestly Kirk Freeport was within a few thousand dollars and they were super-nice and friendly without being pushy at all.
