My friends tell me I should have bought a Breitling even though they don't wear watches. I just tell them to get on my level.

I often get asked "Is that a fake?" (if anyone notices the watch) . . .

I just go "Yeah!" and wink

I wouldn't think too much about it. I notice/look at EVERYONES watch, yet very rarely say anything about them...just don't really feel like striking up conversation with strangers. You never know how someone will react, so I just don't bother. But, I do take some silent joy in seeing watches I like on others wrists. Cheers.

the only 2 comments or reactions i got wearing my GMT-C was on the same day and in the same mall probably 30 minutes apart. I was shopping at the gap with jeans and a golf shirt on, and a younger guy asked "nice watch, what is it?" i said Rolex his reaction was a nice choice good for you type reaction. second comment/reaction. still at the same mall i walk into a holt renfrew (u.s. equivalent would be a Saks) i purchased a golf shirt. while waiting for the receipt and for him to wrap up the shirt. He stuttered when he looked at my watch. It was a weird awkward feeling.

In 2 months of being a very proud owner of an SD I've only had one compliment, (when paying the bill in a very nice French restaurant, and all in French too!), but you never know how many people notice and say nothing. Then again my boss of 10 years didnt notice a thing, even when I enquired about his new watch. That's the SD, runs deep, runs silent!

I, too, look at EVERYONE's watch...even women's. I have to be careful with the ladies though, I don't want them thinking I'm checking out their junk.

I've only had one person walk up to me and comment on my TT GMTc. He had on a Deep Sea so we struck it off. Outside of that, I made conversation once with a guy on a plane that had a red Sub on and said it was his wedding present from his wife. He didn't know it was collectable so I informed him and he was excited.

I can count on one hand the total number of times someone has noticed my watch and commented. Of the times my watch has been noticed, I belive it has been a friend of mine who would say something like "I see you got another new watch". Maybe it has something to do with where you live. Rolex is very very common where I live.

My Day Date, and Daytona get noticed

I have a Baume et Mercier chrono that is actually noticed more than my Rolexs because the Sapphire crystal makes the dial look blue at one angle and black straight on. And Baume Mercier sounds expensive to the average person on the street.

Rolex and the look are so common (Rolex, Folex and other brands) that they just look like another watch. (boy I wish the fakes were as bad as they use to be)

P.S. Only DD's get noticed in the strip club

If you want attention (from your watch) buy a Panerai.

...rolex is easily recognizable, esp those with cyclops and the daytonas ofcourse; and because of that people don't really take an extra effort to inspect the watch; they already know that its a rolex and somehow they look and treat you differently... with respect.

It seems nowdays so many watches in the £50-£500 bracket tray to look like a Daytona or Sub that many woulden't recognise a Rolex unless you have sleeves up and hold it 12" from thier face in the correct orientation, of course recognising or having a watch regonised feels so much better for it.

Eh.. Don't care. I am a watch enthusiast and bought my SS Sub for me. I would have gone for a Bluesy but, it's got a little to much flash for where I travel.

I think more people recognize it and notice it than you migh think....

I think that there may also be a bit of an intimidation factor with the rolex that keep people from sayong anything.

THere has been more than a few times that I've broken the ice about the watch on someone else's wrist, only to have them respond "I've been eying yours up since you walked in" or something to that effect...

Just because they don't comment, doesn't mean they don't notice...

I could care less that people do not notice my watch. Frankly I do not want them to. I buy my watches for myself.

I was out with 3 of my good friends Friday night and of course all 3 are Rolex fans. We were sitting at a coffee shop before dinner and I was holding up my head with my Rolex arm. Not to show it off, just because it was comfortable haha. My friend noticed my new platinum Yachtmaster and complimented that I finally took the plunge for it. His girlfriend blurted out "oh thank god someone else noticed that thing, I was about to die if I didn't find out what it was. I noticed it instantly." She's a very sweet girl so I let her try it on and we all had a good laugh over it.

Moral of the story...yes everyone notices.

My experience is people do notice but rarely comment, it just maybe due to the fact that it's an Rolex that actually stops them commenting as I do find I get more comments for my vintage Omegas than I do when wearing any Rolex.

All very good replies and I'm inclined to agree with the thought that many people do notice them but choose not to acknowledge the watch. I too have an addiction to looking at other people's watches but very rarely do I say anything.

Also, so many of you are assuming I'm married to the girl in my avatar ...just doesn't happen to be the truth. I have yet to take the plunge although I did get engaged a few years back and called it off about 2 months before the date...she loved that. The girl in the avatar is a girl who I date on and off and she's great with listening to me go on and on...an on...about watches. Don't ask why I haven't married her yet...that story is a little too long and involved

Thanks again for the responses

See, I believe it also depends on what part of the country you live in. You may not get any compliments on your watch, but it sure gets recognized. You just need to pay more attention on peoples eyes, and what they are focused on. I live in south Florida, and frequent south beach a lot. Here you can see watches in excess of 100 grand.

Hey Mike, on one of your "off times mind if I call her...?" What? She doesn't like short-fat ugly men!? Oh.. well then never mind...

sigh...

Hey, take it from a (much) older guy like me... first, she is beautiful, but it has to be right to last, so, whatever the best result is, I hope that works out for you (and her)

HA!... list to me... giving advice about women... now THAT is Funny!!!

I always notice people's watches. We went out with a realtor on Saturday, and I spotted instantly that he was wearing a T/T Submariner. I didn't say anything about it because I kind of felt it wasn't polite. The only time I have ever asked to see someone's watch was when it was something I had never seen in person before - e.g. a Bell & Ross. The watch really stood out to me and I was actually curious enough to ask the owner if I could look at it.

I've encountered people who have the same Tag Heuer on their wrist as I do, and in those instances I will point out that we have the exact same watch on. But with a Rolex, it seems kind of taboo to point them out because of the stigma that is attached to owning such a high priced time piece. No one understands it where I work, so I often feel that it is not worth the bother.

I personally would not want to be called out on my watch (Rolex) in front of others, so I give that same respect.

Rolex? A few people have seen mine but the rest would never understand. I'd rather not even talk to them about it.

Well done for speaking up and putting that idiot in his place.

I have to say, some people notice every little piece of lint on you, and other people wouldn't know if you wore the same outfit every day. We all tend to know each of our colleagues and "friends" well enough to know which category they fit into...

I can understand why comments might be minimal on any SS watch. to the untrained eye a SS watch is just a cheap watch, A gold watch however is a different story.

typically unless its gold or has diamonds, the average person probably wont notice, unless you make a point to make them notice...which most people here don't do.
