I've always admired the engineering and quality of that watch from the very first day I laid eyes on it.

How many links did you have to take off, Mike, to get a perfect fit? Does the same screwdriver that comes with the SD 4000 fit those screws?

JJ, I didn't remove any permanent or screw in links. Only the diver's extention. The glidelock clasp is longer than the standard clasp currently in use. I'd guess it amounts to about two full links or so.

What is really slick about it is the ability to set it anywhere you want....no micro holes or anything. A perfect fit is so easy to get.

I've heard of other owners removing the dive extension - sounds like the way to go.

And who knows what that Glidelock hangtag will be worth in the future?
Reminded me of the old Triplock hangtags, which now make funny money...

Congratulations Mike! if you ever need a anchor no need to look far and you know it will be good for at least down to 12800ft just need the rope to go with it! HaHaHa... Great review tho

Thanks, Mike.....that's very interesting. The pic of that diver's extension link looks very impressive with the Rolex coronet!!

The watch looks terrific.....absolutely superb.

The thickness could be a deterrent to some, but the 43 mm diameter would be perfect for my 7½" wrist!!

I agree...I've said it before, but the DSSD actually feels better on my wrist than my 41.5mm SMP Chrono. Anybody that thinks the watch might be extremely uncomfortable due to the size/thickness should really give it some wrist time before final judgment is made...they might be surprised (I know I was). The extension link give the bracelet a cheap look so I just love when you took it off.
I see the endlinks not fits the case perfect, I don't know why Rolex made them that way.

So with your wrist now you know how an asian guy with a Panerai feels.

Absolutely correct. I noticed the same thing on mine when I first brought it home. While it doesn't really bother me, I will admit I thought to myself when I first saw it, "Why can't Rolex get the endlinks perfectly aligned?" It's a small attention to detail that was overlooked yet seems to be so easy to correct.

Ironic...they develop a watch that can go down over 12K ft yet can't seem to mill the endlinks perfectly flush with the case?

Oh well...as I said, doesn't really bother me wrt my overall enjoyment of the watch, but definitely something that makes you go "Hummm..."

wonderful watch!! i tried one on as well and was on the fence about the size but after looking at these pictures, the watch has grown on me. What i love about it is, it is so unique in terms of build and look and there is no other rolex as of now that shares any of the physical features of the dssd. I will definitely be looking for one after the new year.

Greetings. Long time lurker, short time registered, first time poster.

Just picked one of these up. Lovely watch. Can ask you a couple questions:

1. do the links squeek at all? I got some friction happening on the main links to the body as well as a few in the middle. If not on yours, what is the idea behind this. Just a wash and/or wearing usage would lubricate it or should it be considered a problem?

2. I'll need to remove two links to make it fit. I'm not clear on which end -- one at each end of the buckle? I can't recall what i did with my original SD which I resized perfectly. In addition after 10 hours of playing with it, can figure out the slide clasp thing yet.

I picked it up on the fly last night without going into details with the AD at the time but haven't recovered yet to attempt to tinker with it not even removing the plastic. I take it the SD's screwdriver will fit on this?
