He's your cousin........ Trade him straight across (BLNR being worth a bit more) but with the option of: if either party wants their original watch back (assuming no damage, etc) you both trade back.
Be aware this could go horribly wrong...........

I’m confused who’s getting the $1k also. It should be sub+$1k for blnr not the other way around.

Dude BLNR brings higher value AND he’s even offering $ on top. Up to you, but if you’re a fan of the BLNR it’s a no brainer deal

I am assuming that (a) your cousin has a genuine BLNR and (b) your SubC doesn’t have a genie that pops out if you rub the bezel three times.
Because it is a very confusing deal. He is offering a (i) harder to find reference plus (ii) $1,000 extra for a reference that, while a classic, is the most ubiquitous professional Rolex in the world. It makes no logical sense. Absolutely none, unless there’s something wrong with his watch (damaged or missing box/papers or maybe a bit wonky in terms of provenance), or your SubC comes with its own personal genie. I personally wouldn’t do that trade! Why? Because you’d be fleecing your cousin, and that would not be right. A BLNR in most cases is a fair-even trade for an LVc, and vice versa. With no cash changing hands. Those two watches are peers, which is why many people with a BLNR have a LVc. But for a SubC LN? The black sub? No. Especially if an extra $1,000 is going to the SubC. Unless one is in the UK, those are easy to get. Your cousin could probably sell his BLNR (unless it’s fake or damaged) for more money than a brand new SubC LN ...even if he’d bought his BLNR in 2013 when they came out! For him to offer to trade his for a SubC LN, and add a K on top, is really truly off. Either your cousin knows something about his watch, or your SubC has mystical properties, or you’re going to be fleecing family. That’s a bad deal for fam. If it was a stranger it’s an easy deal - flip the BLNR for even more profit and get a newer SubC with change, but family is not to be taken advantage of. |

If it’s the 11660ln 8550 MSRP, BLNR 8950 MSRP. Pretty even trade. If Rolex values the product that way ignoring the hype probably isn’t a bad of an idea.

I would take that trade all day...both are classic watches. The BLNR will more than likely always have a bit more street value than the sub. Plus it might be a nice change

I originally posted about him paying you the $1,000 plus giving the BLNR, but I see you've corrected it. A black Sub and $1,000 in exchange for the BLNR is fair. Go for it if you want to.

Need help: Cousin is offering to trade his BLNR for my SubC
Your sub + $1k for his BLNR is a fair deal. I would even say your still coming out on top. It’s a matter of taste here.
Yes the SubC LN is timeless, bus common and basic. Which is why I have owned both the SubC Date and GMT II is LN and sold both for the BLNR and LV. It’s a killer trade for you and I would definitely do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The only way I’d do this is to have both watches serviced by Rolex, get the watches assessed for current value, and do the swap so that both parties come out as even as possible. Otherwise, this could end up as Family Feud II.

Keep your Sub. Your cousin should flip his blnr to a trusted dealer for a sub unless of course you want the blnr more than your sub. You did pick out the sub originally over a blnr, right?

Trade it. BLNR is way less common than a Sub (Date or not), costs more retail, costs way more grey market, and if there are lineups longer than others they are definitely for the BLNR...if there even are lineups for the Sub.
...but I'm bias ;)

Do it! BLNR is much cooler than SubC Date imo! It's really crazy how much of a difference a touch of that blue makes! Now if you go diving often I wouldn't do it even though you can dive with a GMT trip lock.

The BLNR has been in since it was released. I don't see its popularity dying down. It is almost guaranteed to never be viewed as a "dog" like the original platinum dial Yachtmaster, Explorer II and Milgauss. A future classic even more so if for some reason Rolex decides to keep it limited to this generation.

Hell yeah. Sounds like a fair friends and family type of deal. I won't flip it though. Just enjoy the BLNR for a while for first.

Sub + 1K for a BLNR is a fair trade -- I'd say you're coming out ahead of him on this one.
I wouldn't worry about people who think the BLNR is a dying trend watch. If you like it, then move forward with the deal knowing you're getting a good trade here. It's a black and blue bezel -- it's not something that will be totally out of style because the BLRO is the new hot thing (look at people who are still waiting patiently to get a BLNR). Random question that I didn't see asked/answered here. Are each of the watches about the same age (i.e., roughly same amount of warranty time left)? You mentioned their conditions are comparable, but what about age? |
