I always thought I needed a date, but have been daily wearing a Speedy pro for over a year and no longer miss it. I sign a lot of forms, but I find that I'm starting to get better at remembering the date each day, and my phone is always handy. Love the symmetry of no date watches. I also love the look of the standard sub, as the date version with it's magnifier is a bit too ubiquitous for me.

I've had both numerous times. I considered gong back to a 116610LN last week because I thought I liked it better. I decided against it because I prefer the look of the 114060. The date is everywhere you look. I tell min the morning what it is and I generally don't forget it.
It you wan a Submariner with a date get the LVC

I prefer the standard Sub over the date model.

Even when I'm wearing a watch with a date function I still double check the date on my phone just to make sure. I rotate watches and it's a pain to keep the date accurate--especially on older models.
I flipped my 116610 for a 114060 plus cash 2 years ago and I have no regrets. Here's why: 1. As mentioned already, it's a cleaner, more symmetrical look 2. I check the time 20-30 times a day while working, but the date I check only once--so the date function is not that important to me 3. In the NYC area, sub dates are very common; when I had my sub date I only wore it under the cuff since I didn't want to be another guy with a Rolex date (you can spot the cyclops from across the room). I was at a car dealership the other day and 5 out 7 of the men there had a Rolex sports model with cyclops |

You have the classic.............why would you change?? If the date is that important, take a look at your phone....it'll give you all the info you need.

Keep that clean classic dial, it’s cooler and good for your health. Good for your health you might ask? Sure, it exercises your brain by having to remember the date. Who knows, it may help prevent dementia!

When buying my first Sub, I chose the Date because I figured if I bought the 114060 first I'd always wonder if I should have bought the Date. I also thought the date complication was cool and coolly done - just that little extra bit of charm and sparkle - and was afraid of the classic SubC getting a little boring.
I still like the date complication, I still think it's charming and well-executed and very Rolexy - though I will say that as my first cyclops experience, it took some getting used to (for me there was a parallax effect that messed with my eyes/brain; YMMV). If I had it to do over again, knowing what I know now, I could go either way. I honestly don't think one can go wrong. But if you're going to burn money doing this (i.e., taking a significant loss on the Sub) and you don't absolutely need the date complication, I'd lean towards sticking with what you have. Save the money and pair your Sub with another Rolex with the date complication. |

I like mailman's idea. The ND is classic, keep it. Get the green one. Or a GMT.

A few years age when I purchased my Exp1 Mk1 from a London AD the Salesperson said to me:-
“.....of course a Rolex is not really a Rolex unless it has a cyclops!” This statement has continued to bemuse me considering it came whilst standing amoungst cabinets of Rolex! I did happen to buy a SubC with date a year or so later! So I am OK! |

I had the Sub. I looked at my watch everyday for the date and it drove me nuts. I sold it and bought the sub date. I love the clean look of no date, but I do not regret my decision one bit.

Got the sub date a few months ago and I absolutely love the date. I actually use it everyday to know what the date is. In my opinion, if it’s your first Rolex, I’d keep it for sentimental value. If not, I’d get the date.

I like the date version, but both classics and just a matter of preference.

I almost switched from date to no date then realized how often I use the date function and definitely will not switch.

Simply put, if the Sub was only offered with the Date option then I would probably not get it and this is coming from someone who loves the watch.
Your Sub is true to origins of the watch as Diver's tool. It has perfect aesthetic symmetry while being very easy to read. The date function marketed the watch to people in offices. Sure, the date function is practical but the purity of the No-Date wins for me. Honestly though, it's the cyclops that bothers me more than anything. I can live with it on other models but with the Submariner I want THE Submariner. Also, the "No-Date" is rarely seen in the wild while I see a Sub Date all the time. |

I will say wish it had the date with a flat crystal and no cyclops.

It’s a classic - keep it.
Potentially a nice juncture to buy yourself an additional something that does have the cyclops...! |

I would stick with the SubC, and if you need the date skip the black SubC Date and add the LV. My opinion. I personally like the looks of sans cyclops. Sometimes contemplate swapping the crystal on my BLNR to remove the cyclops.

I look at the date on my watch throughout the day. Or, maybe it's just to look at my beautiful watch, lol.

Thank you all for the valid points, and making this much harder than anticipated. Lol
I wear my Sub everyday and do happen to work in an office. But when I’m not working I’m always outside exploring and doing things. See some of my other posts. I’m just really torn between the two. Love the classic look and symmetry of what I have, but just feel I need the date to complete the status quo Rolex “look”. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sounds like you want the Date model more because it's the "expectation" rather than because you truly want the / need the date function. That solidifies my opinion to keep the Sub and pass on the Sub Date.

I much prefer the regular Submariner for the clean, symmetrical dial and the ease of setting the watch. I also can remember the date so I don't have to constantly reference it. If I were you, I'd think about adding a Hulk or a BLNR instead of getting rid of your Sub.

Not a big cyclops fan myself, so I would stay with the no date. Or get a SD 116600 like I did. I know I have a problem whenever I will be on the market for a new watch, only choice will be a Sub no date, because the 126660 is too big for my wrist....

Keep your sub and use the bezel to tell the date.

I prefer the SubC Date and opted for the same. Not sure I’d go through the effort and expense of flipping though. Enjoy what you got and add something with a date later on.

No date sub is great. For me as a kid seeing them in Skin Diver magazines and National Geographic, the sub date is what I have always loved. Sub date for me is “the” sub.
You can’t go wrong with either. |
