The most common criticism of the watch seems that it is not practical for its ‘intended purpose’ - as per people wearing mechanical diving watches.

From the perspective of a racing sailor, I sincerely believe that no one would be caught dead with this watch unless he or she happens to own a vintage 12-Meter. And even then you would not wear this watch during an actual "around the buoys" race. It's more like a very expensive cocktail after the race in which case - after a few of those cocktails - you might be impressed with the flash & bling factor. My least favorite Rolex.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Until you own one and have it on your wrist, you won’t understand how great this watch is.

Pictures mean nothing.

I actually had one on yesterday. I tell you what....there is NO apologizing for that watch. It isn’t even close. That is the gold Rolex king.

What a beast.

I've had my YM2 SS going 3 years now. It was a daily wearer. Got lot's of attention. It's the perfect F$%k-off watch for a SS Rolex. More so than with the SD43 I'm wearing now.

I never had an issue with size. I love the Regatta complication. Can use it to time anything within a 10 minute span.

Only downside of the watch is legibility when you're in the dark like a movie theatre. I think Rolex may have ironed this out with the big indices and the bigger white hands that come on the new and improved version from Basel 2017, however, in the light, nothing beats the blue hands on the older version.

You should look into getting a used one rather than new. Save yourself at least a couple grand.
