I would keep as is; a) keeping original bezel vs new service one & b) watch is exuding character and you can wear with out worrying you will hurt condition.

I would polish that definitely. That has been well used.

A) From my understanding, a new bezel replacement isn't discernable nor change the value of the watch?

B) I agree with this a lot and can relate to it as I've been wearing the watch care-free for a week prior to submitting it to RSC.

I would give it a light polish, but NOT by Rolex !!!!

) Send it to someone like LAWW, who will take the time and care to polish properly without changing or affecting the shape of the case.

) Do NOT change the bezel !

Absolutely I would polish it. It’s beyond my own personal standard of how far I ever let my watches get. You want Rikki to do it.

If it were me, I would get the watch to as new condition as I could. I would replace whatever it needed and polish it. It’s your watch now. Rewrite it’s history

Opinions split right down the middle. Tough one. Like half the guys have suggested, I'd go with restoring it to full health, then add your own scratches over time.

Would definitely not polish! Would get a brand new bezel installed by RSC. That will make a huge difference.

My almost default is never to polish or replace superficial parts on a watch if at all possible.

Make her pretty! That way, subsequent scratches are all yours. PS replace that ghastly bezel.

Do it all. If you eventually sell it, you can see if it needs a polish. But why let the next guy get a new looking watch. You should get to wear it in like new condition

This is what I would do. It looks to me like the case has been polished previously anyway. I've got an Explorer II beater that has a few scratches and I'm not OCD about that stuff, but that Daytona would make me crazy!

congrats on the purchase! If I owned the watch; I'd get the overhaul since I believe it also includes polishing, and request a bezel as well but I think that costs extra. I have a 16570 that I wore daily and now has obtained quite a few love scratches and is in need of a polish; however I plan on servicing the watch with RSC when the watch begins to malfunction or be off track with timing; but dang its built like a tank.

Best of luck in your decision.

thanks all for your suggestions. I have decided to replace almost everything and get it polished by RSC. I have full faith that RSC will do a great job. If I’m not satisified, I’ll ship it over to LAWW to reshape the case after the 2 yr warranty expires.

The estimate

Overhaul: $850
Chrono Reset Pusher P502: $225
Crown 704: $87
Crystal: $120
Caseback: $135
Bezel: $255

If you got a good deal on it then I agree with completing all the suggested repairs and replacements. It’s your watch now and you’ll have the Rolex papers in your name post service. Plus a fresh from Rolex Daytona will make you really appreciate its beauty

I've been looking for an example in that condition for quite some time and can not find one. Please, if anyone has a "beat to hell" Daytona, please contact me. Here's a link to my classified...

Looks like the watch has previously been polished with a cruddy job....I'd send it somewhere to cut the edges back up if you really cared but you're going to lose more material.....that'd be my only reason for polishing...not for those scratches.

my understanding is that the 116520 does not have sharp edges like the Zenith daytonas, and are a bit rounded? Anyway, I’m going to see what RSC does with it and will plan a case restoration with LAWW if needed.

It's not that rounded....I should know as I own 2 116520s and a zenith.

The 116520 is just like all the other modern Daytonas (I see it on my 116500, 116506, and 116509 as well......the edges are slightly round but it's still far sharper than what I see here.

I wouldn't even touch RSC with this if your hopes are in refinishing.....you need guys like LAWW.

I think the lighting and photo does not accurate represent the ‘sharpness’ and think the lugs are actually in good shape for being so worn, in terms of the case contour. Here’s a close up photo of the lugs. what are your thoughts?
