Hahahaha hahahaha

So, the answer is they won’t authenticate a Rolex!

A quick story on why you need to be very careful. I was at a private event at the AP Boutique in NY a while back. One of the talks being given that night was on counterfeit watches and how sophisticated and good they have become. They passed around two identical Royal Oak Offshore watches and asked the attendees to determine which was real and which was fake. This was a group of avid AP collectors, half got it right but only by guessing.

The boutique had taken the watch in for repair from a customer. The first thing the boutique did was authenticate the watch by inspection (fit, finish, serial number check, etc.). Upon authentication they sent it to the Clearwater repair center for service. Only when the watch was opened and inspected by a technician at the service center was it determined that it was a fake. Everything had checked out initially and it was able to fool an AP employee who is trained by the manufacturer to identify fakes.

The owner had paid over $10K for the watch and it came with box, papers, tags, etc.

To me it really shows how "good" counterfeits have become.

As many others have noted here you really need to know the seller and even then there are risks. The majority of transactions go smooth for buyers who take the time and steps to ensure they are buying prudently but there are a lot of greedy people out there looking to fleece people of their hard earned money.

Also, the watch was bought at an AD near my home, so should I get there for authentification?

Thanks!

Yep. If there is recerd of the sale with matching serial numbers I'd say you're good to go. Might want to get their chief watchmaker to open it up just for peace of mind. It's getting very difficult to discern genuine Subs so no record of sale + receipt would be a dealbraker for me.
