Just out of curiosity, do salespeople at ADs have some sort of special or direct training from Rolex? Or, do they just learn from the other sales people or the AD store manager? As most you already know, even when you encounter a sales "specialist" at a car dealership (who is supposed to know everything about their product), a lot of times you get some dumb@ss that doesn't know a darn thing! Their only goal is to make a sale and will hand you whatever BS they can to try to close the deal. I suspect there are people like this working at Rolex ADs too?

Don't just limit it to AD's...I hear stupid stuff all day long. Sometimes, even on TRF.

So a Rolex AD is going to be completely out of Rolex watches for months including through the holiday season? Makes sense

Not all salesman lying to make a sale. My guy seem humble and honest when I ask him which watch is most in demand or color options, he gave me his opinions and inline with most of our opinions. I just purchased a SS SkyD white dial from him and he said blue are more popular and command higher premium in grey markets. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy more from him.

The reason for any and all sales discourse? Two acronyms from the movie Glengarry Glen Ross come to mind;

1. ABC - Always Be Closing
2. AIDA - Attention, Interest, Decision, Action

These apply in environments where hard-closing is required, not retail.

‘Most’ who are working in a retail environment won’t have this sort of training/instinct. Mainly because retail type ‘sales’ are nothing to do with closing (and don’t require that sort of method) and also the calibre of ‘majority’ of retail ‘sales’ people is low-grade, hence working there.

People who work in retail, especially the stores who stick Rolexes, should recognise that a polite and courteous service is all that’s needed. Any urgency created by shop staff is cringe-inducing.

Go to a Patek boutique, offering Patek only. No embarrassing one-liners, no urgency, just offering help where needed, if you don’t already know about something with ref to the watch you’re wanting to buy.

After all, anyone walking in to an AD is a green light. Existing interest demonstrated. Many Rolex AD’s have lost a guaranteed sale because they are buffoons.

There is a BMW dealership near here that clearly has a policy similar to this stupidity. Whenever you test drive a car, regardless of if it's on a busy Saturday or the first 30 minutes of a Tuesday morning when there is not another customer in sight, when you step back into the dealership to chat with the sales rep, another rep will immediately walk over and say, "I need the keys to that car you just drove. I have an interested buyer." It's all very dramatic, very obvious, and stupid as is this statement from this AD. As you say, they say stupid stuff.

I will say in the US, the pond looks dry for our local AD's until further notice. Certainly appears to be the case in the mile high city.

Because they're trash salesreps who are complacent. Rolex is such a strong brand they could be rude to every customer and still make sales.

Late to the conversation but there is some truth in the argument that the salestron was beyond the mark by trying to close you on “availability”.

Many of these reps sell multiple products at an AD. Very few are true Rolex specialists. And depending upon the AD, they get varying levels of professional sales training.

I’ve met owners/managers who know more about Rolex than their reps at one AD and then go to another where the owner/manager is more focused on other products.

We can beat this topic every week for another 10 years and you’ll still run into good & bad reps.

I would not put too much into his comment. He was just trying to see how serious you were about pulling the trigger on your DJ.

I would have said sometime like, "it is all good, I can wait until next spring after Basel 2019 to see the new models before I make up my mind."

When people try to rush me, makes me want to slow down even more. 😊

When I picked up my sub the AD said that all submariners (up to and including TT) and black GMTs were at minimum a six month wait. Then I see others pick up subs and others within six weeks from the same area ADs. I don't know what to believe anymore.

Funny thing, I was on a minimum 3 month wait for my sub (full payment upfront). I had no contact from my AD. At about 2.5 months I inquired about shipment and so happens "it's due to arrive tomorrow". Coincidence?
