White gold is a great choice. Yellow gold or Everose are beautiful but not for me. I'd go with black dial, but that's me. Get green if that's what you want.

That’s my favorite at the moment also. I didn’t think I was a yellow gold guy either, but the combo is awesome in person

Green for sure

In this case, it’s the one Rolex green color that I actually could see wearing.

I have been thinking about a WG DD as well. Probably 36mm, but 40mm could also be an option... need to try it several times on my wrist to decide if it's too large or not. DJ 41 and II are definetly too big for me.

DJ41 and DD40 wear almost identical.

Why not 60 for 50? The green 60th anniversary dial is superb. I personally prefer the green dial over rose gold, but of your 2 choices, I would still pick green.

I’ve seen both the blue and green dial DDs and they are both great choices! Can’t go wrong either way

This is not only the best DD you can buy, it may be the best watch in the whole line up. Slightly biased opinion, of course.

One other point occurs. You'l find that the 'readability' of the dial varies quite a lot. Best to try several, preferably in gloomy conditions. They're not all equal. The choice of Roman or Stick figures also affects ease of use.

I would go blue or meteorite with diamonds, these are both stunning.

I second this - green Roman numeral is sharp. Especially with the rhodium dial.

If I was to get the DD40, it’s WG all the way. Under the radar. Stealth wealth. Only you and WIS know what it is. Which dial? That’s the question. I really like the silver vertical tapestry one. Good luck.

[QUOTE=Jace;8896498]The white gold day date is a beautiful watch. It is definitely significantly more low-key than the rose gold or yellow gold. White gold is an alloy between yellow gold and some white metal. In the case of Rolex it is believed to be Palladium. It often has a yellowish tint to it and thus requires rhodium plating to look white.

This is not the case with Rolex. Their white gold is white or rather very very light gray. It is referred to Gris Gold or grey gold. It is beautiful and is a watch of a lifetime.

Regarding dial, I am definitely in favor of the blue. I’ve seen the green in person than it does nothing for me. one nice thing about these watches as you can change the tiles down the road.

I wore a white gold day date 40 with the rhodium dial for a while. It was calling my name but I eventually ended up trading it (and a big chuck of cash)for the platinum version. I guess I just like my metals really white.

Unlike the stainless steel models which are in a price craze, precious metal watches are easy to come by and should receive a significant discount. I am not personally bothered by gray market dealers as long as they are reputable. You can usually get your best deals there. I also have no problem buying a previously on watch if it is in really good condition. But hey, that’s me.

it is the watch of a lifetime for an academic as a reward to himself. Buy it, wear it and never look back. It is good for sports and board room, under a tweed jacket in with the pair of jeans and a T-shirt. In the pool and in the ocean.

My two cents

I’m not looking to be a party-pooper, but I had a WG DD for about 10 years, and hardly ever wore it. It’s not that I don’t like WG (I have a WG BLRO)....but I’m much happier with my SS DJ41 when I want to wear a non-sport watch.

Love the WG DD because it’s the piece for those “who know” as it looks like a SS piece

Great watch to keep in the wrist!

You should consider the meteorite dial with diamond indices. I’m not one for gemstones on a dial usually, but I think in this configuration it is particularly attractive and looks great in white gold.

White gold is my favorite of the Day-Dates, with platinum as a close 2nd.

Both the blue and the green dial looks amazing on the white gold DD, however I prefer the green over the blue. So WG and Green dial would be my choice if I where to buy a Day-Date. Good luck choosing

What’s not to like about white gold? Best of both worlds, understated yet devastatingly beautiful. I should know, I just picked up one yesterday!
