you should have probably noticed it when you wind the watch and set the time.

Do you worry about the car dealership swapping engines when you get an oil change?

Take your watch to another jeweler, have them go in the back and open it to make sure, receive watch back, get paranoid again, take to another jeweler, repeat.

You never know what goes on in the back room. Why would they need to take it back there for 10 minutes to appraise it when you just asked a question and we're not making a deal yet. I wouldn't take mine off and hand it to anyone unless I was actually making the deal. Probably nothing happened but you did ask what if.

Yeah that’s true. But the store was pretty packed at the time and the boss was out behind in the office making calls. Digging my own grave perhaps . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

the watchmaker is in the back. They can tell pretty quickly if its real or not so maybe they wanted to have someone look at it and he was busy at the moment. Sales people generally know little about watches. thats probably more plausible.

if you are familiar with your watch, i would anticipate a noticeable difference when winding or listening to the movement.

The dial feet wouldn’t line up, the date wheel would be all wrong, and the hand are a different size, so while possible, it would take longer than 10 minutes.
ETA spins the hands in the opposite direction while setting time vs a real Rolex movement. Your muscle memory would recognize right away that it was wrong. Don’t worry, all they did was internet research. |

Like most conspiracy theories, this is implausible and a waste of time.

Conspiracy theory
I’m guessing this has cured you of asking hypothetical questions that cause your watch to end up in the “back room”. After all you had no intentions of selling it right then...
But as many have confirmed, no they couldn’t insert an ETA into the case. A disreputable watchmaker could insert a Chinese clone but you said it was a reputable jeweler so not really likely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Set the watch. If the hands move forward with a clockwise turn of the crown, you're good to go. If not, well, talk to a lawyer.

No other movement would "feel" the same. Winding, pulling out crown, moving the hands etc. Once you have owned a Rolex(s) you know the distinctive traits of the movement and it's quirks. BTW, this would be paranoia at the Nth degree!

Not within 10 minutes when you consider the time it takes to remove back, crown, hands, dial and then movement swap + put everything back together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
