Back to the OP question, I would also recommend the following which used to be a Boutique type Marriott Courtyard prior to closing after the hurricane. They just reopened in August after a renovation as part of Marriott's Autograph Collection: (It's just south of the FB and I used to stay there during it's Courtyard days instead of staying at the FB since the rates were so much better.)

I've also heard good things about The Confidante Miami Beach which you mentioned. Friends have also mentioned The Betsey to me when we discussed the hotels in the area.
Yea the Cadillac is nice but still over $200. Not much tho. The Confidante seems nice as well just not coffee maker in room UGH lol

Depending on when you want to go you might not be able to get at or under $200 for a decent place. What dates are you looking for?

Not on the beach but might be an option...originally built as a Starwood aloft but now a Double Tree.

Also had coworkers stay at this hotel (while we had the conference at the FB) and they were pretty happy. A relatively new Marriott brand in the US:

Update: I ended up getting a suite at the Confidante. I ran across a deal one day on Amex travel for the best suite in the hotel (besides the penthouse) for $170 a night and couldn’t pass it up. From the pics online the suite looks amazing. Will post pics of the room and view when I get back. Vacation is at the end of Oct

Try deleting your cookies before looking for a room again. Sometimes the rates go up if they see repeat internet traffic, especially sites like Expedia, etc.

Why would I look for a room again when I just said I already booked one?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but we are dealing with red tide issues that may have the beaches closed by the time you visit. Hoping for the best for you since it is your first time.

I would keep a close eye on the news. Safe travels!
