I prefer my Sub to my GMT. That said get the watch you want. I don't care which one matches this or that.

BLNR is great. I’ve seen a few in person and think it’s well done and not gaudy at all. Trying to get my hands on one right now.

I'm just confused... you can't wear brown shoes because you have a black bezel on your watch?

What is this, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy or something?

I like the BLNR very much, but I think a Sub LN is perhaps the most versatile watch in the entire Rolex line up.

Exactly, after how many decades all of a sudden can't wear a sub with brown shoes? One of the most iconic and classic watches ever, worn with jeans and tuxedos but not brown shoes. That's right, it's now a fashion piece.

I prefer my blnr over my sub but the sub is definitely way more versatile. Blnr can be versatile in different ways, it can be dressed up or down but black sub is still king in terms of versatility. I think you just want a blnr and absolutely nothing wrong with that and I would make the switch.

Black watch and brown shoes are perfectly fine IMO. I do it all the time

To the OP, a Sub pretty much goes with everything. Wouldn't worry too much about matching shoe color to watch bezel.

Who has bought the BLNR to later trade it for a Sub (whether date or no date). I only want one it seems pointless to have both the black sub and the BLNR but struggling with the decision and no ADs have the BLNR to compare.

If I did not get my original gmt ceramic 8 years ago I would have got a BLNR. I added the LVC as I did not want two Gmts. It’s a looker for sure.

Brown leather shoes... brown leather belt, brown strap / complimentary tone.

Shiny brown... shiny belt etc etc etc you get the point.

Dull brown... dull brown belt... etc etc

With that said... this is a very traditional... like you said... I don't think it matters to the Everyman but if you want to be traditional it does bare some thought...

But probably not that much thought, just enjoy what you wear, life is short

Definitely match a watch strap to the same color family as shoes/belt. I also only wear simple dress watches on leather straps with my suits. I know trends have changed in recent years, but some of us like to stick to tradition.
