Taste is subjective but to me it's just about the most aesthetically perfect watch I've ever seen.

The current price mania with the desirable SS Professional Series references is insane. I’m lucky to have begun my cravings 4 decades ago.
Today’s market situation would make searching for these models beyond frustrating.
And it’s not going to end in the short term.
Better to buy 5 series used.

Scarcity drives up the desire and hence the popularity of ownership. The principle applies to all Rolex watches, and BLNR is probably one of the most affordable entry ways into the realm due its relative price, a widely popular color, and brand recognition.

The watch itself is okay.

Thank you for your comments.

I have seen the reference just once in real life but mostly in pics. Could be the pics don't do it justice.

Wayne I saw your pic the other day which made me think of this thread. I really like it!

If it had the same dial or a similar extreme navy to black theme as the JC deepsea it would be ALL over to me. The BLNR is gorgeous, but now I've had, and sold two (each for about the same period of 4-5 months) and don't really regret it at all.

I would love to see a light blue/navy bezel and a navy blue dial. That would look amazing.

It's never really lit my fire but I see the appeal, a bit of blue for interest and an accurate colour depiction of day and night. I prefer the BLRO but not the Coke.

GMTs are dollars to donuts the best Rolex value there is. Whether it's an Explorer II, BLNR, BLRO, LN etc. The 24 hour had is indispensable when traveling between time zones. Rotating bezel on all but the Explorer II can be used for timing like a Submariner as well as functioning as a 3rd time zone.

If one does not like the PCLs, can always brush them.

I wonder how any people actually know how to use and read the gmt function.

IMO the BLNR is a beautiful watch. I really like the color combination. Having said that, I do own a D-Blue (which kind of has the same color combination) and will hopefully be getting the BLRO soon.

This will take my rolex collection to:

D-Blue
Daytona 116500 (white)
BLNR
BLRO

So, I know that I will have to let go of one of the GMTs and I think it will be the BLNR.

I love it but I fear there is no room in the collection.

Not sure I have the heart to do it but we will see

Here you go:

No denying the GMT complication is probably one of the most useful. You can even use the bezel as a simple timing devise for cooking or other everyday tasks as you would use a Sub’s bezel for.
Historically, timing is everything and the BLNR hit at a perfect time within the catalog. The ceramic blue and black contrast was clean and sharp demonstrating how well Rolex mastered the ceramic manufacturing process. The hue of blue is more electric blue that is more eye catching. The black watch is everywhere and I believe many grow tired of its safe color choice. A little splash of blue is more daring without totally committing to a extrovert watch like a Hulk or Rolex with some pm on it. The BLNR appeals to both type A and type B personalities.

I'd like it more if the whole bezel was blue.

The GMT really should only be offered in one style; the original classic blue and red. Maybe Rolex should let the GMT buyer purchase replacement dials in several color schemes such as blue/black. It would never happen because, for some reason, Rolex does not want any loose part available for purchase without a direct exchange.

For some reason this watch has not appealed to me. Not sure if it's the blue tone of the bezel or the GMT hand, or the PCLs.

Thanks for reading. Have a good weekend...

Technically, black and white are not considered to be colours, however, common usage of the words would imply they are.

It's the most versatile watch I own out of my collection. I've worn it with shorts and suits and have never had an issue with it. If the PCL's don't work for you, may I suggest putting it on an Oysterflex band for extra comfort.
