Recently finished that job. Not fun. Beautyrest Black firm was great for about a month. Wifey and I both started to dislike it. We tried a Tempurpedic after that. I was good with it.

She didn’t like it after a week. Returned it.

6 months in on a Sleep Number. We are both happy now.

Memory foam never did it for me, my back always felt worse the next morning.

The absolute best night's sleep I've ever had was at the Wynn hotel in Las Vegas. Their mattresses are plush, soft, and supportive. They'd better be the best, since they retail for around $5,000... I'd buy one if I could convince my wife, but she sleeps fine on our Simmons Beautyrest Black

The thing I don't like about buying a mattress is the one you choose at the store doesn't feel the same as the one you get. Many of the mattress on the showroom floor have been there for a while and feel softer after having so many people trying them out. I learned this the hard way.

I"d like to clarify something that most of us are not or might not be
aware of possibly.

Whenever one chooses a new mattress depending on the type of feel
they prefer, there is about a 30 day break in/adjustment period.

1. The mattress is new and almost always is on the firmer side whether
it's a plush, medium or firm feel ... Thus, it will break in and adjust to it's
new owners...

2. You and your partner/spouse have slept on an aging mattress or
one that no longer supports you properly. Therefore giving your neck,
shoulders, hips, back etc... a workout for the worse creating pain
that's caused by the old mattress because you are not
in proper spinal alignment any longer and it's causing you
to toss and turn so your not getting into REM stage...
Now you know it's time for a new one.

3. The break in /adjustment period is just that , in that the mattress
needs to release a little and your body is adjusting to the new mattress.

That's why certain companies will offer 30 to 90 day
returns if your not happy and sleeping like a baby...

that is a science in itself haha

Usually I just check consumer reports and buy what they recommend in my price range. Don't have that much time on my hands. But I think when one gets older it deserves more attention to have the right mattress.

US Mattress has some of the best brands and their prices
are on the better side. That said , Tempur-pedic is price locked
and can be only matched when they offer a sale on their website.
In other words local retailers can match the discount offered on
Tempur-pedic . When they have a close out model one can
purchase the floor show room models for 50 %off retail or
new in stock for 25/30 % off retail of that discontinued model.

Whenever shopping find the original MSRP of other brands and
shoot for 20 to 30 % off ...

Feel is subjective so when choosing a new mattress spend a few
minutes on each of the one being considered and try it just as
you would at home... However you sleep.
Look for the one you feel the most support on and no pain or
numbing that will allow you to sleep throughout the night
in the position you mostly sleep...

Only private labels can be deeply discounted usually.
National Brands Like Sealy, Stearns & Foster, Simmons Beautyrest
and Serta will only allow a certain percentage for sales discounts.
Sleep Number I do not know much about but like Tempur-pedic
You either like it or you don't ... Many know fairly quickly.

I hope this helps.
