My experience with the service was nothing short of spectacular. Going back and forth... Highly likely to get another one.

JLC is a brand well know for their heritage and watchmaking prowess. I think more than any major Swiss brand, they have made more calibres. I have the opportunity to visit the JLC manufacturer last June and I think short of Seiko and Rolex, they are they most vertically watch manufacture currently in existence. All their existing watches have inhouse movement which are fully designed, furnished and assembled in house.
JLC caters to both mid tier and high end market. Value retention isn't a strong point of JLC and I think their marketing lacks behind other brands. Sorry to hear about the bad service of US JLC service centre but it appears to be a recurring trend with Richemont watches. I have not yet sent in or service a JLC watch before and I am from Asia so can't comment on this. My favourite JLC line remains the Duometre which I feel is most attractive in design as well as most innovative.

JLC has always been an upper tier watch brand, sorta avant garde and certainly esoteric...for those "in the know". not quite as main stream as the big three or omega/rolex. in the USA they were and somewhat still are the "intellectuals" or "wine and cheese" crowd's watch. something an ivy league professor or manhattan socialite would be wearing while reading The New Yorker. also worn and loved by watch freaks like us. however since being absorbed by the big corporation they have changed a bit style-wise with the addition of the big sport models. this esoteric quality may have something to do with the lower resale value than other more mainstream brands.
service and repair-wise once they go past their warranty period there are many alternatives to factory service. find a highly regarded independent shop for service. unless the watch was thrown against a wall it's doubtful any oddball parts are going to need replacement, and even if so there are loads of parts floating around, even for late model stuff. most watch makers have connections and can get their hands on parts. we just picked up a couple very modern and very broken JLC watches and i will post an interesting thread on how our watch tech here in cebu city brought them both back from the dead. in a mainstream city like new york i can think of 4 or 5 independent techs off the top of my head that could do the same with ease. |
