Sub date or gmt. And if you find yourself deep in doodoo, it’s a good currency to buy yourself a ticket home. It’s a currency well known around the world like wearing gold coins on your wrist

I’m looking for something similar for same reasons. Narrowed it down to the Explorer II and Sub no date.

Explorer 2 no rotating bezel to break but easier to scratch and ding.

Sub no date...rotating bezel that can get caught on something and break but if scratched just replace the insert.

Thoughts?

I rocked a TT Datejust for most of my 21 yrs in the Army. Never had a problem. This was before the internet; we did not worry about bumps and scratches back then (*_*)

How do you size a bracelet with a paper clip, other than micro-adjustments on the clasp?

everyone has already covered most of the bases here, Id probably give the edge to the explorer 2 for its EXTREME ease of readability and lack of anything to to get snagged on bezel wise, but a sub would work awesome too really. They can take all sorts of you name it even though they do look all purty now vs some of the vintage ones which did seem more "toolish"...

I was helicopter pilot in Vietnam are wore my GMT for the entire 365 days that I was there. Took it off in the occasional shower to give it a rinse. Gave it to my son on his 21st birthday. He still wears it along with his BLNR. Has made two trips to RSC. Can't ask for more.

You never, ever need a dive watch unless you're a diver. Otherwise, as some have pointed out, the rotating bezel is just stuff to break, the case it larger, thicker and more likely to get snagged on things (one reason G-shocks are a joke) and (with the exception of the 43mm Sea-Dweller) both Explorers and even the Oyster Perpetual has a better shock absorbing system. Any Oyster can take s reasonable amount of abuse and are dead reliable, never need to be wound (or will during your tenure need a service unless you're making the military a career) and have no battery to fail. An Explorer would be an excellent choice.

Unless you’re infantry, then I wouldn’t worry about the occasional “recoil” you’re going to experience during your annual weapon qualification. Are you going to be engaging targets with a 240 every single day? I still doubt that’s going to affect anything.

Just pick and wear something you enjoy.

Bend the paperclip, poke the small springbar in the clasp, move the end of the bracelet, enjoy.

5-digit Sub/GMT/Explorer clasps have holes in the side. A paperclip fits perfectly, especially the heavier type.

Or, are you talking about removing full links? If so, that's done long before deployment.

23+ years Navy.

Didn't get mine until after I retired, but I'd second the second time zone options. GMT (I was an aviator, so natural choice for me) or Explorer.

Submariner, Explorer or the Explorer II would be my choices. All rugged and can handle anything thrown at them.

Explorer for every day use.

X-33 and a Garmin for the field. Quartz so I don't have to worry about continuous shocks effecting the gears and it can run multiple timers and alarms at once.

Do not recommend G Shock, nor quartz.

Thanks.

I think the sub or gmt would hold up just fine. Castro and Che Guevara both wore them under heavy combat and guerilla maneuvers. Also were standard issue at one point. Also I have read recently that folks in the military sometimes avoid digital as they may not hold with electronic magnetic pulse weapons.

Being AF I see more apple watches, but around my way pilots wear breitlings and the occasional Datejust. For me. 14060 or 114060 does that trick.
Grab a sub or exp II. Wear it and love it and let it tell stories of your deployments and TDY’s.

Unless you’re an O6 or up. Then clearly a platona or PM Datejust lol

Day Date.
It shows you’re General Material.
Go big or go home.
Also you can have some shock and awe right there on your wrist.

6 digit Subs are always a nice option. They're used more often than most would think today.
