Platinum Daytona Two Years In
I’ve already reviewed this a couple of times, so this will be short. Two years in, wearing the platinum Daytona at least 29 days out of 30 and it’s still awesome! It’s comfortable, weighty but not in a bad way, and looks great. At least in terms of comments made to me, it flies well under the radar. I’ve had two comments in two years. I wore it walking the beach in Naples, hiking the mountains in Switzerland and all points in between. It keeps great time (about a 1/2 second fast per day), and I don’t really have any trouble reading it. Well, in low light, especially when the hour and/or minute hands are near the sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position, it can take more than a glance to see the hands. I will say that while I don’t yet wear glasses (except for 1.0 readers occasionally), reading the sub-dials if using the chrono would be difficult. But I really like a chrono more for its looks than its function. Color me shallow.
For me, this watch is the ultimate daily. Being platinum, it is not “in your face” the way rose or yellow gold would be, and is therefor appropriate for all situations. Having a metal bracelet, it is not a big deal to sweat wearing it at the beach. It is as rugged as any other Rolex, so while I don’t exercise with it, I don’t worry about it (other than taking it off to move furniture for instance). Seems like the population of owners here on TRF is growing. I understand why, but also understand that a SS Daytona likely provides a large percentage of the pleasure for a small percentage of the price. Here’s a link describing why I am so glad I didn’t wait for my SS Daytona ship to come in two years ago and instead got this one: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=644939 Here’s a couple of poor “action” shots on the beach and overlooking Lake Lucerne:
