I think the difference in the bezel can really give it a different result in appearance. Particularly in the DDII. I don't really care for the fluted bezel in the DDII, when before, it was the only type of bezel I would have bought in the 36mm Datejust or Day-Date. However, I think the dome bezel in the DDII is not too shabby and would definitely pull the trigger on a DDII Glacier Dial Dome Bezel once I save enough for it.
SubKing, congrats on your watch and wear it in good health :-) |

Old mans watch you say?....well not many of us could afford the huge watch budget which you evidently have at twenty-four years of age therefore we are now old-men who can afford them.

I loooooooove the Day Date models, when I was first trying to choose a model at rolex.com I wanted the day date with roman numerals, until I realized they are super expensive :(

I tried on all 3 DDII's at Tourneau in SF (YG WG Platty). All spectacular. Not too big and I have a 7" (not large) wrist. All what you compare it too. I wear a 44mm Panny and I tried the DD next to a Ling B01 (43.5mm); in that context it does not seem too big. I do not like the blue dial on the Platty. It may be exclusive but I like classic - either white or black for me. The stealthness of the Platty is very attractive. It is flashy yet subtle. Most people would think it's steel (i.e. "only" a $8K watch) when in reality it is as heavy as a bank vault where it should be kept when not on.

but what parts of the day date are platinum, the bezel, is the case and the bracelet also platinum? |

I was lucky enough to try on the platinum DDII on my latest trip to San Francisco. It's a beautiful watch, but wow was it heavy! It was a bit too much for me.

I first thought the same, but the DDII really grew on me.
And I like the fluted bezel on the DJII. It's gorgeous when it catches the light, very modern, and I have gotten tons of compliments on it. |

Tried on a platinum DD and it was heavy but I can see getting it - like the smooth bezel. The DDIIs are just too big for me - and don't want to grow into one at this point....

I hated the DD2 plat when I first tried it on 3 months ago.......but it kept growing on me...
That hate changed to an addiction to that watch. Been wearing it very often and it's only heavy for the first few minutes. Regards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I've really come around to the DDII. Initially I thought it was a bit much but now it's my favorite watch. Even the wifey likes it.

I don't think the DDII is big at all. It's lighter than my AP diver. Here is a comparison of my 218238 against my Big Pilot, which I think is a wonderful size for a casual watch. Below that is a comparison to the Explorer II. Even in my Avatar you can see that it looks small on wrist. I'm only 5'11."

I tried on this Platinum Day Date II with Mark (Malarky) when he was in town. It was a used random serial number that the original owner traded in after two weeks because... wait... "It was too heavy on his wrist." I loved it and wished I would have bought it. Dam.
Ok, can anyone tell me why the attatch files is not working for me? |

I don't think you can go wrong with either the DD or the DDII. I selected the DDII because of the size and the look of the watch. Short of some after-market modifications I have not seen a DD from any era that was not nice. But some I like better than others.

To each their own? I think we have to agree to that.

I've had a chance to try on a WG DDII along with a WG DD, and I too felt the DDII a bit too hefty and too large -- but it's no surprise considering I am cursed with a very thin wrist. The classic DD felt much better, but after owning and wearing quite a few 40mm and 42mm sports watches, I was a bit surprised on its case height to case diameter ratio. It looked a bit too thick for its diameter somehow. I still admire both models though, but I should stick to classic sports Rolexes I guess, Sub and GMT mostly.
