I love the cat and mouse game going on here regarding the AD's name. This seems to be a favorite TRF puzzle. Is the OP going to purgatory if he names it?

No lol. But they don’t sell over the phone to out of town customers. He told me that. So i don’t want to inundate them with a lot of phone calls that i suspect they’ll think are my fault as we’ve talked about me being on this forum before.

Not so much your thread or this conversation, but it is annoying when people want to confirm some theory or announcement based on what "their AD" said, but never offer any information on the AD. It does seem to be a weird TRF thing.

With only 1 Rolex sold a week and such small display of Rolex maybe the store is struggling itself.

The super and sustained hype for Rolex mean they have outgrown Mom and Pop stores, they are a high footfall Boutique business now and one that Rolex can then better control.

Interestingly enough the display was fully 1/3 of the store before they “lost it”. After that they clearly consolidated case room, put these much closer together etc.

We have gotten to the point where the customer is afraid of the dealer......"NO SOUP FOR YOU!"

I don’t know if it applies to this dealer, but I know of a couple of other small town AD’s that have been asked to build out a new Rolex display that can be as much as a $250k. One dealer complied and things are carrying on, the other wasn’t willing and they’ve lost their status.

This is what appeared to happen to Gasser Jewelers in Canton, OH. a couple of years ago. According to a former employee who now works at a mall jeweler, there were other family considerations but the $250K commitment was over the top and the family closed the business.

I lost one of my favorite in-state ADs in Barnes Jewelry, Amarillo. They had been with Rolex for decades but closed that line around the first of the year (I think).

Early last year when I visited they had 2 BLNRs and 1 LN GMT in the display...just sitting there. Several subs and even a Daytona. Like I said one of my favorite dealers of all time.

I need to ask my long time salesman what happened. Such a shame.

Nope. I know where this is, was in a month ago. Wanted the usual grey markup for the CHNR $16k or so, and I believe $13.5k for the 16710 Pepsi.

I am a bit confused by some of the discussions in this thread. Did they charge the grey price only after losing the AD status, or had they been charging this kind of markup as an AD?

They had a preowned section when they were still an AD. I saw that 16710 last July and seriously considered it, a bit too rich for me and opted to wait for the 126710.

I went by again after they lost their status, and tried on the CHNR, noticed the pricing was above MSRP, so figured they adopted the grey model now that they no longer had an obligation to Rolex Corp.

Good for them, they can now make a fortune selling Michael Kors.

Ah, got it; thank you.

So they are now trying to unload the remainder of their Rolexes by charging a markup.
