Thoughts on a 1675 gilt

I’m not saying I think they are replacement, I’m basically saying I don’t know
I thought that 50+ yrs of tritium automatically corroded a little the hands

It’s not a PCG case (for 1966 it shouldn’t be one anyway) but it definitely looks polished, which isn’t unusual.

"1965" is late for PCG, but could be '64 ^

Yes, and consistent with the type C dial too...
The case seems in excellent condition as if it was not much worn (as could attest the back sticker still attached)......or is there a problem somewhere I’m not seeing?

On this example, the date wheel is white but the 7s are flat and at least the 9 is open...What should it be on a 64-65 gilt gmt? I thought the 7 was hooked but then saw it could be flat on early 60s models...
Is there an other number to check then? Or is it definitely later service?

I see the watch was rolexserviced last year which means they vetted it. Nice dial and case. What are they asking?

1.1 million would be beginning of 65. It is indeed engraved on that PCG case

The caseback is stamped IV63.
I saw on the GMTmaster1675 website that some type C dials could be found on late PCG cases

Is it completely impossible that the case was made a year before the watch was completely assembled? And then engraved accordingly?
I thought I read somewhere that Rolex in the 60 was kind of loose with these things, creating transitional models quite often

Refinished case that isn't too thin and there a some small dings to the dial @12 but looks pretty glossy to me. Jubilee is later...

I noticed the tiny spots near the 12 o’clock triangle but have no idea what it can be.
The rest seems matching but I’d need a uv picture...

Those extremely tiny pin-point marks by 12 are really nothing on a dial of this age. Having said that, it could be re-lumed, to my eye. If it is, it's a good job. Wouldn't surprise me, given the re-finished case.

Sure the marks on the Dial matter,When You go to resell the Piece they WILL be brought up and used as a negotiating point no matter the age....The high rollers want perfection.

The dial is superb with one tiny stain at 5 barely visible without the loupe (but that’s my main concern ):


Apparently, it seems to be a small oil stain and there is nothing to do about it...
The indexes are very even and glow under UV light evenly. The hands don’t glow anymore (as on 2 of my other watches I tried the uv on)

The watchmaker I saw it with told me he thinks the hands (except the 24hr one, a little darker btw) were relumed (probably a long time ago but not very well) or changed ( maybe too clean with no corrosion). He offered me 2 choices at first :
- keep them as is
- remove the lume and relume them with matching old tritium but do it better

Then, as we were talking about technical details, he pulled out a box full of old hands to see what he had in stock from that era (all kinds, in little compartments, with some Fiedler pouches barely opened, ).
We found a set, with the tritium matching more the indexes (in color and texture with the loupe) but also a little more corroded by 50+ yrs of radioactivity...He told me he could also swap them if I wanted
Here are the hands the watch came with :

Here too next to the dial. In the other compartment sticked to a green pad are probably even older ones we tried but very very corroded :

And the third one that seemed to be the most matching :


What do you think?

The insert is a red back a little corroded, probably original to the watch in his opinion :


The case seems very clean. (Forgot to take pictures of it with everything out :/)




The movement was very clean too with no corrosion. It will need cleaning (as the rest of the watch!) and servicing though and the watchmaker, who seems really competent and knowledgeable by the way, offered me to assist in the process if I was interested!

I kinda want to take it now
...Even though that stain m, as tiny as it may be, bugs me :/
Opinions? :)

Seems like the tiny spots were dust...they can’t be seen anymore here but I’ll need to see it in person!

Finally got new pictures and a UV shot :



I really think about pulling the trigger here but I’ll see it in person in a couple days
I also got some videos that I can’t post here that seem to show a wonderful piece!
Unless I’m missing something?
