Neighbor across the steet is on his second. As he says, they are problematic and he expects to be in the shop 2-3 times a year. That being said, he would not drive anything else.

Thinking they needed one reliable larger vehicle, they traded their Aucra RDX for a Volvo XC 90. They drive a loaner Volvo as much as their own now.

I recently bought a BMW X3 few months back and have been having recurring air conditioning issues. It keeps malfunctioning and going back to the workshop for repairs. It's very frustrating, especially considering the warm climate where i live. I have owned many Bimmers and this is the first one that keep giving me issues.

Other than this problem, when it works, the car is a joy to drive. I do wish they get the basics like air-conditioning right though instead of putting in lots of fancy but useless features like finger gestures but fail to get the basics like air conditioning right.

Yesterday I started thread about service issues with our 2012 528i, 3 attempts to fix and dealer still failed. My wife is trading it in this summer and X5 was at top of list but unless BMW has great reason why they cannot fix our 528 no way will we stick with brand.

And by the way, we ordered the car in 2011 and got one of the first 2012 new model cars with totally new engine. We were concerned about being test monkeys but we have had no problems until this year. She still loves it, just needs more cargo capacity.

After owning several cars from the Audi brand, picked up my first BMW last February: a 2018 X5 (F15). Very pleased after the first year with 10K on the Odometer. Great SUV that handles very well for a vehicle of its size. No warranty issues thus far, only routine maintenance.

I've had two in the past, probably wouldn't keep them without a warranty. 10 years on a german luxury car can get expensive.

Thanks all. Think I’m going to keep the Lexus. I’ve had two bmws prior and forgot that once the warranty ran out it basically needed endless repairs. That and they needed some other repairs under warranty. Lexus may not be as fun to drive but better reliability and less headaches waiting at the service center in the long run.

To be fair, while not ranked as high as Lexus, BMW is ranked 7th (up one spot from last year) in JD Powers 2019 Dependability Survey.

We've got an 2014 X5 50i (~40k miles) & have had almost zero issues. The only one was a warning message on startup about disabling some items (A/C, etc.) due to charging problems. It never actually disabled anything, but was an annoying message. It took a few visits for the dealer to find the problem, but they fixed it & it hasn't returned.

I think it's the best looking "luxury" SUV on the market & performance with the V8 is great, if you care about those things.

I would go with/stay with the Lexus. I have a GX460 and it is a great vehicle and a Top Rated vehicle from Consumer Reports. If it is a little large there are other options in the line-up. Like watches go check the resale values and that can also help you decide.

My 328’s had average reliability which is in line with CR ratings but nothing like the high reliability of my current Lexus RX350.

I’d be interested in hearing owners thoughts on this one.
My wife had one many years ago. After 90,000 miles it turned into a pumpkin and everything started going. Now those may say well it had 90,000 miles and that’s to be expected. Nah, don’t buy it. I had a Hyundai years back, 100,000 and no issues and I mean zero. My current VW has 90,000 and almost only a minor issue. My old Mercedes ml had 135,000+ before I traded it and other than random lights coming on now and again- no issues.
