I think with the PP, JLC, Lang, VC, and other "fancy pants" watches, its even MORE of an appreciation of the "art" of watchmaking. They will not be as robust as the Rollie and you would not want to go rock climbing with them. But, like what Gerardo said above, its about buying what makes you happy...

I've had the urge to go Patek. I would love to keep my SS Daytona and get a gold complicated Patek but can't swing the $20000 + for a used one. Maybe in a few years....who know's with the economy now....

Rolex is my second brand
I'd have another Patek over a Rolex in a heartbeat if I could afford one at present.

No second choice here

Rolex is all I will ever need.

Watch must be............................
Waterproof,
Have Date,
No leather/fabric.
No battery,
Tough,
Wear casual or formal,
No yellow gold,

SS Sub Date then.................

Regards Mike.

VC is there on the list. Look again.

Plenty of people do rigorous activities with other brands. Not sure where this myth started, but I know people who scuba dive with a Patek, shoot skeet with a Vacheron, and swim with a Piguet. No problems.

A. Lange & Sohne would be my choice!

I don't see Oris or Stowa on the list here. They have some impressive craftsmanship for the price.

For instance, my JLC Squara Hometime is just fantastic and it just can not be compared to Rolex's GMT or Explorer. Why? Well, JLC is strap, dual display and exhibition caseback, and Rolex is a Rolex; but that does not demerit JLC. The actual 'after sales' experience with JLC has been 1,000 times more pleasant than Rolex, and the small details (box, warranty cards, etc) are far more elegant and detailed than Rolex.

So while I do agree that a Rolex is a Rolex, there is a fantastic array of beautiful watches out there. Once again, the golden rule: buy what speaks to you. It might be a Zenith El Primero Chronomaster, a Breitling Chrono Avenger, a Patek Calatrava, a JLC Reverso, IWC Portugese, Longines Master or something as simple as a Hamilton Khaki; as long as YOU are happy, who cares what others think.

Enjoy life my friends, we only live once; Rolex is and will always be Rolex but dare now and then to go wild and try something different, you might be surprised. And for us Rolex lovers: once you put your Rolex back on your wrist, the 'welcome back' feeling is amazing! Have a great weekend!!!
Thanks Gerardo, your explanation is beautiful I like Rolex, Panerai and Breilting.......... to be honest I like all brands, I love watches!!!

Jaeger Le Coutre for me. A watch I have always admired as epitomising both class and tradition. One day I hope to get one

I completely agree with GerardoG words.
I own 7 Rolex and love the brand since my early teens, owning my first Rolex (Sub) when I was 18 (and I´m 60 now).
There are some other brands I´d love to own at least one specimen: Breguet, Lange, Patek. Regretable, I guess they are out of my budget.

I own Breitling, Omega and Panerai. I Love these watches, and use them alternatively with my Rolex, but it is Rolex the one I prefer above all.
Best regards, Abel

Out of the names on the list, I would definitely have to choose Patek Philippe. Very impressive craftsmanship and history surrounding those watches. I read about how they have engineered a movement that is only about 1 mm thick!

No matter if Patek is the ultimate luxury timepiece i would go for a Lange for sure !

Been in the factory of Patek as a special guest made me more crazy about their timepieces but i still love Lange more .

So thats my 2 choices after Rolex ...

I voted Panerai. Honestly though I'd be hard pressed to not consider Omega (the Speedmaster is so iconic) and Blancpain.
