I'm hyper vigilant wearing any of watches around London now. We have a huge issue with moped gangs - sadly I think the same can be said for any of the large European cities.

Just like any other big city, these things happen and Amsterdam certainly is no exception.

I've walked around Amsterdam midday and midnight numerous times, high and sober wearing luxury watches and never felt unsafe. Not saying it cannot happen to me but generally speaking it is a pretty safe place.

Some time ago in an Asian country, after a high increase of violence and robberies with the use of a motorbike or a scooter it was forbidden to have a passenger on the 2 wheeler.....
Robberies declined rapidly immediately........excellent idea/proposal for Amsterdam, London etc.
(BTW:..please do not argue that it is a rascist act against the "poor" ("who only can afford theirselves to drive a 2 wheeler and not a car)........

The wifey and I really enjoyed Amsterdam. Wandered all over wearing a 116520 without a care. Some of that time was spent post coffee shop enjoyment. Situational awareness rules.

And the source citation from the OP is downright frightening. Straight up ubernationalist (I would use a stronger term but don’t want to get banned) hate site.

Easy to spot for people in the know i.e. hobbyist and thieves looking for a good profit. Like rolex watches, secondary market values on a Leica hold very well.

Having clicked on the link and read through the 'facts' I can confirm that this is a extreme right nationalistic / racist website.

why in the world are people scared of moped watch thieves?

Vegans.... scare the hell out of me

you can just skip to 3:15 for the good part ... its fake but it fits this exact kind of stereotyping and people believed it.

Me and a friend had our temporary apartment rental in Amsterdam (pre-airbnb) robbed back in 2010 (by a white robber, fyi) and we fought them off. This was pre-Rolex days for me, but they did try to get my MacBook and Blackberry. If you want to hear the story and see some NSFW bloody photos...

(seriously, the photos are bloody, so fair warning)

I don’t have figures but I suspect only a minority of burglaries occur because the front door gets smashed it. My in-laws decided to get metal bars installed inside every entry point to the house (including windows on all floors). They still nearly got burgled by scammers pretending to offer a quote for tree surgery - scammer distracts householder at the front, then gets escorted round the back to “assess the trees” whilst his unseen mates try to get in the house via a side entrance.
Determined thieves will get you one way or another, at least round this way. They’ll scope you and burgle you when you’re on holiday or at work. Or they’ll gain entry like the case atop this thread by menacing the occupants. Fortunately burglaries perpetrated by such determined thieves, as opposed to lazy opportunists, are relatively rare.".........

It is of course a rhetorical question and the answer is exceedingly obvious, but indeed I did. It’s interesting that your response to my posts was to trawl my post history rather than refute what I said (the Wilders cheap shot aside, that was a crap joke).

I acknowledged in that post that thieves exist. Hardly an Earth-shattering revelation and I’m not sure how you’re linking it to anything that’s been said on this thread.

I suppose I could’ve written that the scammers were white, but why would I? It’d be weird and irrelevant.

I can open a Euro lock in around 20-25 seconds being quiet. Probably 10 seconds if i don't mind making a tad of noise. Fitted to most UPVC multi lock doors.

Just point out i am not a Burglar, this is at work, also not as a burglar.

Horrendous locks, Need one with the sacrificial snap point, then your safe as house. In regards lock snapping or bumping. Frighting really.

Back to the post, i think most cities have some problem and you have to be situationally aware.

I was mugged in London many years ago on Shepherds Bush Green very late one night, i made 42 quid out of the incident. Muggers became mugged.

I guess that makes you either a locksmith or the ghost of Harry Houdini

The sun was shining and the city was at it's normal usual happy easy going self.

As many people have said, most large cities are very similar, risk wise. A degree of situational awareness and common sense will see you through unscathed. Who goes flashing their watch around in public to attract attention? If so, well, good luck ...

Long sleeves, low profile, no headphones while walking, not gormlessly checking your phone, ‘reading’ oncoming traffic and pedestrians, keeping to the inside of pavements, constantly scanning ... all this will see you fine.

I dont think many people with luxury watches who gets robbed go around 'flashing' them (im sure some do).

We all know that even the most basic brushed SS model rolex shines and gleams in the sun on its polished surfaces. You dont need to 'flash' a rolex for a criminal/thief to notice it. They are actively looking for it without the need for it to stick out.

With that said, yes situational awareness is key around the globe.

How many of these [Warning if visiting (insert city)] threads do we need? A Rolex is a universally recognized valuable. Similar to a stack of 100 USD bills, it could attract criminals anywhere in the world.

I was there with the wife this jan like we do every year and it was great as always. In fact as time goes by you spot less ladies on windows, probably due to the internet, no shady guys selling club drugs on street corners anymore, and that is a shame btw lol. we feel safer there year after year.
