That's possibly due to the fact that the SS Daytona is incredibly scarce in the Norwegian market? No offence intended.

The Daytona is definitely not scarce in the Norwegian market. I could (and did) get my hands on a Daytona from my AD within 8 weeks. The AD at one point told me he had 7(!!) Daytonas in one shipment.
To you Bård... I don´t think fame is the same as recognizability. The daytona is a legendary watch that revolutionized the chronograph movement with its simplistic and sturdy construction and extreme accuracy. Not to forget its smashing looks. It doesn´t look as "Rolexy" as the SUB and the GMT, and therefor is not as recognizable. It´s a watch that whispers to watch enthusiasts, but doesn´t scream out to the general public. GREAT if you ask me. |

You may be right, but the SS models are readilly available in the gray market. My BMW dealer had a Daytona (white gold on a strap). He told me he wanted a "bluesey" sub, but was afraid it would be recognized by customers making them believe he overcharged them. So he purchased a Daytona.

For such an iconic watch I think it could never happen. Btw I just got back from 1 week in shanghai tonight and now tomorrow going to HK , and in shanghai I went to peek a look at every AD I came across probably more than 30 or so. Quite a few had ss daytons available Id say 1/3 or so. Most had gold ones. I wonder what that says about the current state of sales for new ss daytonas in asia?

AD name: Sheiban Jewelers 16938 Pearl Road Strongsville, OH 44136 440.238.0616 And I live about 5 minutes away there! So, What should I buy? SS Daytona for MSRP $9,925 or the SS&YG Daytona for $10,700 (20% off!) ? |

I was interested in hearing from people who claim that they have seen SS Daytonas in the case for sale at MSRP (not a premium)to any Tom, Dick or Harry as though they are not selling. Your AD won't sell to me as you've stated so it doesn't count does it? Apologies if you were trying to help prove my point as you so graciously have.

CharlieC - Your point is right on! I went to 5 ADs in Cleveland , Ohio USA and none have it in their showcases! But, the one I mentioned above, I asked the sale person, she surely said that she didn't have it, then I ask the AD owner, and he went to the back room and bring it out show it to me! I put them on my wrist! Man...Oh...Man...I'm speechless! Now what? SS Daytona or TT Daytona?

Buy the SS and wear it with pride and smile at the TT that almost was!! PS....Should you ever need to re-sell later on down the line for whatever reason I know which watch will hold it's value 100000000000000% better than the other !!

Ss daytona uk
I am waiting for a ss daytona 116520 at list .What i know is this and no bull ----.In my experiance i bought a omega speedmaster in 1989 then i went and px for a 16610 in 1993.Then i px for a 16613 in 1996 i then upgraded again in 2000 to a yachtmaster .Now here is the punch line i then went in same shop i wish to upgrade to a ss daytona basically wasnt interested so i sent a email to head office explaining my exasperation basically same response as the manager in there store .
I thought these watches were for regular customers ,forgot to add my wife had three watches as well from same dealer .Now i phoned again before xmas and was told 7yr wait by a salesgirl .I asked a week ago and was told £1k deposit and they would put me on the list but as they can only have 6 on the list not at present but try again in april WTF I have asked at other AD and been told no way so all you lucky guys in the US buy them because in the UK the word rocking horse sh-- comes to mind This is just my experiance and the dealer i mention is Watches of Switzerland Brighton Sussex |

Wow It's that bad in europe except norway. In US there are some sporadic sightings and in asia only for vip clients plus the premium. So all in all everybody's assessment is correct. It never lost it's legendary status. The only rolex without a discount and sometimes even a premium. The only way to get a good price is through trf.

However said that, as a man of principle I will ONLY pay rrp or less and have been fortunate to have been allocated Milgauss's (2) and SS Daytona (2) by AD's to me within the last year without having to be on a list at all. Good banter and converstaion have done the trick for me IMO. Would I pay rrp £6170 now ? If i didn't already own one and was desperate...ABSOLUTELY. However if it meant waiting 3 years would I buy off a GD now for £6500........the principle of it might just get the better of me, so possibly no!! Tough call my man !!!
