Platinum Daytona Itch
Why did you sell? Would you sacrifice the 116519LN plus cash to get it again?
Good question. For now I prefer 519 combined with D5s. Anything more is just Daytona hoarding lol. I think the catalyst for change for me would be a full wg ceramic model. That said if a thinning is in my future I would consider 506 again. The weight is spectacular. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Platinum Daytona Itch
Brilliant white metal. Sunburst dial with depth you don’t notice from afar. Beautiful contrast. Perfect Goldilocks size.
I’ll just leave this here... |

They have one in the case at my local AD that I've tried on a few times looking for an excuse to pull the trigger. Money aside, it just wears too small on my 7.25" wrist. I'm sure a lot (most) of you would disagree but it's a watch I've just never felt. Had a YG Daytona on a strap with a Tahitian MOP face that took me forever to find because I didn't want diamonds. When I sold it I literally felt nothing. I was more attached to my GV Milgauss.

It's a beautiful watch.
If you can carry the price tag, then it's a no brainer. |

Heft definitely has me skeptical. And value is definitely a big concern. I'm paying an additional 50K+ for a different metal. Now, I get that trying to get any notion of "value" on a watch is irrational, but that figure is staggering. |

They are holding up better on resale. They were below 50K USD used for a while with MSRP of 75K. Now I think they are nearing 60K. Remember that is dealer asking price so who knows what dealers will buy them for. All this means is this a watch you must love and keep forever.

Every time I have tried on a platinum watch, I have been overwhelmed by its weight. Its not for me at all. And then to pay this amount for it? Nope.

Either you like full PM watches or you don’t. I wear full gold/platinum Daytona, DD40, DD36, Royal Oak, etc. Once you’re used to a heavier watch, it’s a really odd feeling to put on SS or even worse, SS on a strap where it feels like you’re wearing nothing at all. The weight is noticeable at first, but you get used to it just like anything else. Wool trousers feel uncomfortable to someone used to wearing jeans every day. Not so much once you’re used to wearing a suit every day. You’re paying for exclusivity. The metal is a portion, but the exclusivity is mostly it. The same reason a stainless Rolex is $8k and a stainless Seiko is $500. |

Couple points for you to consider:
1) 0 concerns wearing this as a daily versus the WG. It is hefty but the weight disappears after you initially strap it on. And there is no concern of wear versus white gold (IMO the white gold is softer). 2) The values will keep crawling up with Rolex's demand lately IMO across all sports models....this watch is one that's been rumored (not so much here) by a lot of folks to be discontinued year after year lately. 3) The value of a watch has nothing to do with complication/quality of the watch. I 100% agree it's a lot to pay for the a precious metal Daytona without heavy complication....but the market (real supply/demand) dictates price. If it was this versus a Lange Datograph or Patek 5170/5070.....I think I would choose the Lange/Patek....but once again is it the king of modern Rolex? Does it wear that hefty with that much presence while staying this slim? No....it doesn't give the same feeling. At the end of the day, a very nice watch that I've enjoyed on occasion for years. Very happy with it and have always loved the way it looks/wears. |

Ahhh, no. You are paying for the metal and they are not exclusive, actually easy to obtain, just more expensive. And your analogy is awful. |

Oh, sorry. You’re right. There’s an extra $60k of platinum and that’s what drives the incremental cost. These are just as common as every other Rolex. I own one and I still missed it. Thanks for the education. |

A stunning watch, and one I've wistfully tried on a few times, as well.
That stated, one can buy a very nicely appointed Audi for the cost of this watch. To put it another way, that's quite a few more acres to add to a ranch in a rural mountain state. I don't think I could ever justify the purchase to myself. Let alone justify it to the Missus. It's kinda like a Kardashian- I can't afford it, but I'm damn sure gonna look at it. |

Wow. This is the first critique of a platinum Daytona that has made me seriously consider selling mine!

5 and 5 for my wrist (including the end links). I've got two links out of the bracelet.

I am in the same boat. Think I have decided to get one but can’t decide on the baguette diamond dial or the regular dial.
Does anyone have the baguette dial -if so, is it ok for daily wear? |

I scratched the itch and happy I did. Weight isn't a factor, after a few minutes it wears like any other watch and I wear it like any other watch. Insure, wear and enjoy.

Platinum must be better? IDK, hard to say. Depends on your pocketbook, no doubts its a killer watch.
