Yup.
As I said in my earlier post on this thread, the similarities are quite striking.

The case design from the ‘40’s certainly has its DNA in the Oysterquartz.

Very informative.

Don’t forget it’s the ref 5100 and not 5300. I made an error in my earlier posts about it.

Yes, I only saw your last post after sending mine.
Of course that’s why I couldn’t find anything about the ref.5300..... Just out of interest, any idea why it was called the Texan?

I've owned my 17013 for 35 years, and my 19018 for 8. I've always liked the unique styling.

Only guessing that it’s because of its large size - 40mm - that it was nicknamed among collectors as the “Texano”! It’s certainly not an official name.

Lovely piece and fun to wear since the second hand is ticking instead of sweeping :)

I just sold this but while I had it (first time I've owned/seen an OQ in person), I enjoyed it. Relative to my automatic watches, surprised at how "loud" the ticks are. From a design perspective, I love the Mk1 dial for it's simplicity and having the integrated bracelet + bevels continue from the case through the bracelet only to stop at the clasp:

Reading through this thread makes me want to pursue the hunt for OQ birth year watch.

Great looking watch, and very unique. Relatively affordable for how distinguished it looks. I’d rather have one of these than your run of the mill vintage DJ.

I've read somewhere that the automatic 3035 movement would fit nicely into these QQ cases. This might be a nice option if quartz parts run out some day. Has anyone heard of this actually being done ?

Bought my 17000 around six years ago. Can't see me taking a bath on value. It's also the most comfortable bracelet ever.

Where would one look if they wanted a 17000 or 17014, outside of the internet? I was thinking of checking out the watch shops in the diamond district in midtown, but where else would be a good bet to find one of these? What cities or countries would you look? I feel like most of the ones I find on the internet are pretty beat up for what people are asking. Thank you in advance.

Oysterquartz service prices

I recently received my 17000 back from RSC NY. 700.00 service, 600.00 motor module. The motor module was in stock. An independent that had looked at my watch was told the motor modules were on backorder. Perhaps Rolex is holding tight the remaining stock of modules?

Yes I would completely agree on this. In my opinion the oysterquartz is not meant to be polished! Just look at the lug hole allowance (before the spring bar start showing) and the sharp chamfers.

Alot of watchshop just polished it like a normal oyster datejust which the results are terrible.

Do see pictures below taken from ebay.

I recently found 1 unpolished used 1985 17013 from a local dealer for USD $2800. Although there are many scratch marks and just 12 links but to be honest, not easy to come by a decent piece.

Here the pictures to show you what I meant.

Rolex doesn’t sell any oysterquartz parts. Rolex policy is all oysterquartz models will be serviced by Rolex. Parts availability, plenty of what whatever you need. Be advised that there are only four service dial colors available.

Thanks for the heads up on on parts availability. So many fallacies out there on this model. Every mention of motor module replacement came with an inflated and apparently imagined price. My main concern and the reason I started outside of RSC was the fear I would be forced to change my excellent mark 1 dial. Fact is nothing was forced on me. My chamfers were already softened so I let them polish mine. I could not be happier with the experience. If RSC is the only way to keep these running, so be it. I feel the prices are within reason and about half of what has been mentioned on this very forum. Not knocking anyone, I just think false statements repeated often enough are taken as fact.

Could I ask if getting the buckly or diamond dial replacement from RSC is possible?

I got a 1978 17013 oysterquartz. Can’t be happier with it. I sincerely think it’s my favorite Rolex model. I used to have a 17000 some years ago and definitely love the OQ line.
My 17013 is in very good conditions with extra sharp edges.
I can upload some pics if you want.

Yes, please share pictures and close up of the case condition. Do you get the full 13links as well? I hope it was reasonable priced.

Love the OQ, and got my hands on a grail piece 17014 .

Has the slate diamond dial which shows shades of purple in the right lighting. Has some scratches but otherwise looks unpolished.

They are getting harder to find in good condition but still possible and compared to other watches of their age, prices are reasonable.

I'm 42 years old and I love the OQ. I bought my first rollie when I was 30, a 16570 polar, and I didn't think I'd get into OQ (or TT) at the time, but I did very soon after. They're just great watches.

I serviced my 17000 roughly 8 years ago at RSC NY for about $800, and I've since given it to my dad, as he isn't so active anymore and the quartz timekeeping is perfect for him.

As for me, I rotate between my TT 17013 and burlwood 19018 (and other mechanical beauties) depending on how I feel on any given day. I really do love them both.
