40mm is fine but I don't mind if they up-size it a bit.

The "average" size man these days in the USA is several inches taller and weighs about 30 pounds more than "average" size American men 40 years ago. Plus, the younger generation is getting larger. And wrist sizes are getting much larger. Watch, for example, any TV show from the 60s and see how much more slender (including wrist sizes) the men were then than overall now, or if you watch a current TV show.

40mm is a tad small. Now, do I like the really large 47mm -49mm watches, no that is pushing it unless you have a large wrist. I personally can wear a 47mm with no problems, but I think 42-43mm would be better for Rolex. Seems these days in the Sport Watch industry that 44mm is becoming the standard. Sometimes I think even a 44mm looks a little small on my beefy wrist. Those couple of mm do make a difference in fit and appearance.

Same in Asia. In Thailand for example, when I first started working there 16 years ago, at 5'10" I was the tallest guy around pretty much. Now, all the Thais from around the ages of 16-21 I have noticed are taller than me. Due to improved diets, more protein, and more accessibility of dairy products and western food. (and unfortunately, in the elementary age kids, Thailand is now having one of the largest increases of obesity worldwide-- Kuwait is still the highest for obesity overall in the world).

I like the 40mm case size just the way it is. To me,this size is perfect and why mess with perfection. If the sports/tool watches were made smaller it would be harder to see/read the face!!!

Love the watch but after always find it small after wearing my other ones!

We are not criticizing the 40mm watches but look above at the concurrency's average size!!! I am sur Rolex is loosing a few costumers for this matter!
The only reason why I purchase a Rolex is for the quality of the watch...it is a must and a classic for a watch collector! Rolex have more competition today than 20 or 30 years ago! ...and yes people are larger than before!

IMO Rolex S.A. needs to come out with a 41 mm TT DJ. As soon as they do i will look at them more seriously. Keep the 36mm for the ladies though!

It's hard to argue with how Rolex has run its business and desgined its watches. They sold more last year than they ever have (according to CEO statement), and with pricing that conssitently outruns inflation since the inception of the company. So why don't "they please" the customers you refer to? I would guess because they have a model that has yielded unparalleled success, and chasing the latest trend like the big watch trend, has never been a part of that. I just can't see a classic brand like Rolex going up to 44mm, and then having to ramp it down in a few years to smaller sizes, just to follow a trend. If sales were hurting compared to the overall market, then maybe they would have to look at it; but sales are extremely strong.

owning the deep sea for a few weeks now, its hard for me to get used to the old feeling of the 40mm case. The bigger case of the deep sea has gotten the upper hand right now.

Good answer...but they could make an exeption for at least one modele like Graham did with there oversize collection?

i think the option to have your sports watch either 40mm or 44mm would be very cool and beneficial to rolex. i own an explorer ii and would definitely buy a 44mm model if it came out. some people maybe dont even consider rolex because they want bigger cases!!
