It's nice to be in the presence of all these expert economists.

I firmly agree with about half of you.

I'm watching this price thing with interest. I've heard a rumour (from a legit source) of the following...

1. Current Hulk has stopped being produced, in readiness for a new release next year, they are just getting though stock levels of new sales.

2. Hulks ARE being faked. Using aftermarket bezels and dials, Rolex service will return them to standard if the S/N does not match when sent in!

Believe this or not... this is what I've heard!

I don't see why they would re release the Hulk though. Seems more appropriate to discontinue it and put the new movement into the standard sub

I don't think it would be different enough unless they put it on a jubilee like the BLNR

but the whole 'green' thing was meant to be commemorative so making it never ending it less special

Well... the Hulk was never really a commemorative version, the Kermit was... they just probably experimented with ceramic colours and found green was a stable production colour!

Oh god, lets hope the never put the Sub on that nasty 'decorative' jubliee! Just makes people want the MK1 BLNR even more... hence the price increase I think!

There were 3 on Watchfinder yesterday, all at over £13,500 and one of them has already sold; over double retail!

I've bought from Greys before and paid over retail but it's all getting a bit too rich for my blood now
Wow, is this in euro or USD

The madness probably won’t end because genuine watch enthusiasts are being replaced by a new breed of speculators and investors who have only recently got into watches - just for the purpose of buying Rolex’s for the money. With interest rates so low people know they can buy a Rolex steel sports and make thousands, most wont have heard or care about other great brands like Zenith for example.
You only have to look at any posts asking ‘which Rolex Sports shall I buy’ and most of the answers will be about which one is hardest to get, the merits of the watch, for example GMT over WR is rarely ever mentioned.

Agreed... 10 years ago, I hardly ever had conversations about watches at work. Nowadays, loads of the younger guys in the office are talking about watches (Rolex/AP and PP) and aspiring to own one. I'm convinced instagram plays a big part.

Yes, it has to be, this used to be a closed and specialised hobby, but now info sharing is so widespread and so quick that anything can catch fire and go viral.

I honestly don't understand with prices like you guys have in UK, why do you even buy watches there. A lot of greys have brand new Hulks for 14k Euros in Continental Europe, which is considerably less than 15k Pounds. And you guys are in EU, still, so you wouldn't need to pay taxes bringing it into UK. Seems like a good way to save money.

WF paid me 8200 pounds for my 8 year old LV ,, so my guess is that they are betting on prices going up a lot more

Are they selling at £13,500 though?

The whole watch market is a joke really and controlled by big hitters telling people what things are worth. If grey dealers start listing them for £13,500 there’s a thread saying they’re £13,500 now. Some people are just crazy paying these prices, especially for new models.

I was watching a vid last night with some Rolex expert/dealer & another watch dealer, they were going through some of his pieces and it was just like “see this piece, 5 years ago $10k, now $50k. This piece $1.5m when you couldn’t give them away”. So much of this business is people plucking huge numbers out the air. Good luck to them but what amazes me is the fact people are willing to pay these crazy prices. There’s so much guff and hot air that’s spouted like these things are some amazing treasure from an Egyptian tomb or something.

I can tell you for sure the last Hulk on a UK forum sat on the sale section at £10,750 without interest until he dropped the price to £10k and then it sold. This was only last week.

Paying over rrp for a new watch is crazy to me and will be the first part of the market to collapse when interest rates go up here.

WF's 2016 model which I compare to mine has gone up three times in the last 2 weeks. It's now over £14k. Imagine what they will do if it discontinues lol I reckon £20k mark

It’s here to stay and prices will continue to rise. When the younger guys into Rolex now (hot models) start getting older and get more disposable ££ then can you imagine the impact on discontinued / vintage pieces. They are already competing in the emerging economies of Asia / South America; imagine when they are also competing in 10 years time with the emerged economies and each other. then we will start to see some truly incredible prices. For these guys and their social media bubble these trinkets are absolute must haves and they’ll do anything to get them and post them on social media for kudos

Hold onto your Rolex’s!

My AD is still getting them. Very occasionally, same as usual, but no shut down of supply.

Yes, it has happened. Not all Hulk purchases have been based on relationships or bundles. Sometimes it’s just the right place and right time.

What’s the difference between the Kermit and the Hulk?

I just bought my brand new green Sub from my AD the day before yesterday, I waited about a month for mine. My short wait time was due having purchased lots of expensive diamond jewelry for my wife recently.

In simple terms, the Kermit is the older model with black dial and metal bezel.
Hulk is green dial and green ceramic bezel.

Think of this. When has a company made 800,000 of something every single year and it's still not enough !
