No wrong choice here. Personally I'd get the platona with diamond indexes.

This exactly. The correct combo until a DD40 in platinum has a fluted bezel. And this is coming from someone that don't favor fluted bezels....but IMO not a Day Date without one.

I would flip it. DD40 with deconstructed romans + WG/Silver dial/oysterflex Daytona. My second choice would be the RG/Olive DD40.

DD40 for me. I love Daytona’s but the brown bezel and subdials bother me. Deconstructed Roman numerals DD40 would be my choice.

DD40 with romans.
Just like the way it looks.
I don’t agree with the brown in the Daytona.

I bought the Platinum Daytona with diamonds late last year and just found the watch not to my liking after a short time. Slightly small, I knew this when I bought it as I wore a YG Daytona for a decade, and the brown bezel did not work well for me. If the bezel had of been black it may still be in the collection. I have owned several DD II's over the years in Platinum and I went and bought the one with the concentric Roman Dial. It is the same as the first Platinum watch I had and I am liking it. If I could not have found this watch I would have gone DD40 in Platinum. Beautiful watches.

I agree, and I’m a fan of the fluted bezels...especially on the DD. I think it’s a beautiful watch, and differentiated by the smooth bezel and dial, but when I had one, I’d be apprehensive about wearing often without worry, with that bezel. I wear the Daytona without hesitation. Opted for the DD40’s with fluted bezel

it was stated on my initial post that value retention is always a factor no matter what , for some people is negligible for some others a big factor , everyone ponder things differently. Never my intention to buy second hand , my concern is more when is time to sell how much the greys will give for it, i am not rich and flipping or change of economics conditions play a big factor for me that's all bro.

Yeah right now the Grey are listing Platona for 65k with little room to negotiate, AD wise they are lists in a lot of AD's for it with little or no discount. So i say having a platona now is a good place to be.
DD40 platinum retails for 62.5k, I had an offer from the AD for 48K !. A couple days after I reach my sales associate and say just want a say sorry for our deal don't working out but why you are willing to do this for DD40 plat and you put in a list for the platona, he said is just a hard watch to move. I don't get it , both are stunning pieces they should have equal treatment , i guess the market is crazy. But what really is scary is my buddy experience when he sold his DD40 plat, the grey dealer gave him 38k. i also talked to a grey dealer i deal with about this 38k deal my friend had and and he said is a little low, he said I would probably give you 40K, but I know how it works he is telling me 40 but in the moment of true is more like 38-39

And as far as the bezel yeah that's a fair point the fluted bezel is kind of a huge differentiation element that separates the DD from the rest specially in platinum because the average person might think is SS I know who cares what other people think but still

Cheers

I think the DD is gorgeous, but put simply (IMO)....the Daytona is a better daily wearer, and just better to look at!
Do you have it in Platinum.
I am going back and forth on the same issue.
I have a white face SS daytona and love it but the ice blue on the platinum was gorgeous.
I have not seen the 40mm DD. I think the face has changed and is no longer starburst but quadrant.

The Platinum DD for me. It is a grail piece.

I wouldn’t use the complications on the Platona. I have a lap timer that does a far better job as it is. My lap timer also grabs HD video.

Seriously, just like in life, who needs the extra complications? Plat DD ftw!

Guys, let’s not forget this little wheel in the equation.

What about the 118206 as the bargainers choice? $25k easy with no connections. Less with cash and a grey buddy.

This is really a helluva good option.

Its much more likely that one day they could discontinue the platona than the day date...

Since I am not paying for it, I take the econ out and prefer the DD just comparing the two watches.

Hi. Yes, have it in PT. The ice blue dial is absolutely spectacular!

The dial on the PT DD40 is either quadrant/romans or motif/stick
Not my picture...but I used it in the past when deciding

I'm not big on complications although I have a couple of Gmts and just like the style but I'd have to go DD40 here just thinking about the beauty of the blue motif or blue roman dial.
