Yep, and my local AD has just informed me that they will no longer carry Rolex starting next month! Hard to imagine they would do this if they had droves of peeps lining up to throw down 10-20k for a watch...

The world over. Unless you’re a big player with an AD.. it’s Time to move on, or go grey.

I was in Europe last month and visited 3 ADs. I was only in the market for an Explorer 1, and was instantly offered it at 2 out of 3 ADs while clearly appearing as a tourist. Granted, that is not the most in-demand model, and I doubt there would have been the same result had I asked for a SS pepsi...

Offered to swap the dial for a white one while you wait? Never heard of that before.

The dealer in Amsterdam airport offered to do the same for me one time , I'm not sure if that's even allowed by Rolex ?

Guess I shall have to wait until I get to the top of my AD’s list for my SS Daytona.

There was a TT Daytona in Gibraltar with a black dial and they offered to swap the dial out for a white one while I waited! I left the store, with a polite “no thank you”
It rubbish in London as well. I miss sunny Orlando some amazing modes in the AD compared to London which is empty.

I was in Tenerife (south) last week and the AD had an explorer, air king, green & white milgauss, all two tone and solid gold subs.

Nothing topping the desirability list, but a much more interesting window that any UK AD I've seen in the last 12 months!

a very honest ad in Italy told me they had what I wanted but it would be like handing me a bag of free money (regardless of whether it was my life's goal to own that watch forever or I was a flipper).

the watches are there but they have to know and want to sell it to you. $$$$

Yep, very true. A friend of mine texted his friend/old colleague (who is close to the person in charge of the watch department at one of the big jewellers here in town). He was looking to buy the BLNR (just before it was discontinued). The answer was; "Sure we have it. Can he come by tomorrow"?

Cheers,
Joe

I have a hard time believing that an AD would not turn high demand pieces to revenue because of this. If it makes them feel any better, 99% of their models do not have this "problem".

The spread is simply too much for ADs not to seek some sort of quid pro quo for it. After all, there are so many ways to get around Rolex rules no matter how strict they are about it.

I was in my AD on Friday and I’ve yet to see such a sorry sight! Not a single solitary pro steel model in sight, no precious metal pro models either. The one and only pro model on display was a TT Yachtmaster 37.

Even the non pro lineup was rubbish - only one steel Datejust 41 and a couple of OP 36 - absolutely everything else was TT Datejust.

It’s just making Rolex look silly really (though they certainly aren’t!)

The SS pieces are not sold anymore to tourist anywhere in the world. Local AD servers local customers only. New common policy.

SS are all gone to grey or VIP customers, just not sitting in windows

Yesterday’s AD’s in Milan only had 36, 31 datejust and day dates on cases.
Not a single SS sports model, not even 41 date just.
On the positive side, tried on the new 36 Datejust and looks great.

Travel a bit further and go to Brazil, smaller ad's outside Rio/SP. No daytonas, blro's,hulks ofcource but subs, explorers 1/2 even white/black skydwellers are available if you walk in at the right moment. Saw a case last month with sub no date, 2 explorers, white/black skydweller, polar, milgauss black/blue. All in the case ready to be picked up. http://danglar.com.br/

The WL for those watches isn't all that big in ADs in Europe/NA anyway and the premiums aren't crazy. If you were talking Daytonas, BLROs, Hulks, blue dial SkyDs, it'd be worth it. Otherwise buying from a reputable grey would be simpler, cheaper and faster.

There was an Explorer I in an AD window in Marbella when I was there a few weeks ago. Regret not going in to get it...

If your talking about the hot SS sports like Subs, GMTs and Daytonas, then it's not just Europe that has none...

Same in US. Making things worse is that the DJs they do have on display are not very appealing. I guess the blue dial, fluted bezels on a jubilee are in the same category as SS sport watches now.

That doesn´t mean they don´t have them, they might be stashed away in the safe waiting for the right client. I have heard that even Rolex advice to ADs is not to display those models.

I can foresee the trend is moving towards selling to the locals only.

Couldn't agree more. I wouldn't even waste my time reporting back as a tourist on what I was unable to find. The game is local, the key is relationships.

Rolex SA also wants the ADs in a country to sell to locals.Numerous ADs have told me this.
