I asked my AD about a month before the Mayer video came out. They said it's a numbers game - they seldom get them, their last was sitting in the display case in August 2018, and once it sold they haven't seen it again.

Demand now of course is off the charts. All this manufactured hype is starting to turn me off of it, even if my AD delivers.

Indeed. I cant imagine Rolex said these will sell like hot cakes when they put it out.

My reason for not liking this version, nor the gold GMT II with green dial, is completely superficial...Our football rival colors are green and gold...

Reminds me of the trading days when fed Alan Greenspan use to give briefings. Every trader on the floor were buying or selling depending on what he said.

An interesting aside, in 2016 after the release of the 116500, in a Hodinkee article John Mayer says the Daytona is a $30k watch. At the time the hype was just in its infancy, but it’s interesting that he was pretty accurate with this number 3 years later

Might be the odd one out, but Ive like this watch since I got the Hulk, but the grey prices are unbelievably high now.
And like it or not, the John Mayer vdo did make the watch a tad more attractive to me.

I think the problem with Mayer and indeed even this forum if a thread gets a lot of traction, is that now there are a new breed of buyers, and a new mindset from greys, that Rolexes are profitable investments, rather than watches, and people are actively looking for triggers now.

I agree The enthusiasm for wearing watches seems to have shifted more into enthusiasm for investing in watches.

Having my Daytona SS white and BLRO SS - sets me up for years as my one-two punch watches!

I emailed my AD about those exact two models recently. No response lol. I can always call and get a hold of him, but maybe it's a good thing and saved me some money.

Congratulations in advance; I hope you love it. It's a bit to bright for my tastes, fwiw. If it works for you that's all that matters!!!

Oh how naive of those who thinks John Mayer is the only reason why this watch is sought after.
