Unfortunately the UK is cheap at the moment for overseas buyers given the state of the pound and tax refunds.

I also think there seems to be a big difference between UK and US Greys. You stateside guys should take a good look at Mark Worthington or Watchfinder web site prices and you will quickly see that buying an in demand SS Sports model from a grey dealer this side of the pond will involve huge mark ups even on Subs.

Call 8 dealers and say you bought a GMT 2 years ago and are interested in selling it and let us know if the tone changes.

This isn’t surprising as others have said, you may have a slightly different response if you went in person but in all reality it’s likely a waste of your time.

This is a “dead” topic. Constant refrain “no sports models”. Time to move on. As for ‘grey’ every watch I’ve bought for the past 25 years has been grey or preowned. I enjoy vintage over the latest and newest. Just one man’s opinion.

Calling around asking for any SS sports models available is not a good way to get any kind of productive or hopeful response from an AD. I get why you do it, but I think it's a flawed measurement of testing the current state of the market.

You'll have a much better chance at stopping by a physical store, engaging in some casual conversation, and explaining to a sales person what you're interested in. Obviously stopping by in-person vs. calling for something like a Daytona or Pepsi is not going to make a difference at all. However, for some of the other SS professional models that have become harder to acquire recently (e.g., Exp 2, Sub, etc.) you might be surprised how much better traction you have by discussing in-person and showing serious interest in a particular watch.

Maybe do it again and tell them you are ‘insert celebrity’s name here’ agent and the response might be slightly different.

Failing that, you have compromising pictures of the manager and would like to chat about Rolex availability!

I’m inclined to agree. Were you expecting to call 8 ADs, and have each respond that, yes, they do have hard to find models available for immediate sale?

Seriously though, making random phones asking about any SS sports model? That reeks of a waste of time. Go into any luxury good stores and keep asking about the lack of availability of their most popular product, and see what they say. It will be the same response.

If you want to buy a watch, step up and buy it. Otherwise, stay on the sidelines and keep quite.

Although it's certainly not the "hottest" model, I watched a brand new black dial DSSD go from the coffin to the case today at my dealer.

In the last few weeks I've visited and called 8 stores in my area of the states. Visits definitely work better although when I am in the area and honestly say I'm trying to avoid a drive over the conversation goes well. One dealer last week had just received a Daytona that was on display. Yesterday I looked at a new bicolor GMT that came in the day before. My impression is most dealers are taking lists based on local customers. The others just put it out as they get it. Not a one had interest in selling to someone over the phone from out of the area. Btw, I wanted to like the bicolor GMT, was there for me, but the bracelet just was too rich looking to wear where I often am. Excellent colors on the case, bezel, and face. My thought is, if I can't every day it, leave it for someone that will. Although, now that I look back at the pictures, maybe I should call back on it, lovely piece.

The phone USED to work. Now they simply wont entertain it.

Supply is still choked. The only way for it to make a balance is if the world collapses, then we should hopefully see more on display. Mind you, I'll probably be picking up for 500K in steel and sit on it. See where that takes me.

Not, half a chance, or if you come immediately today, or its possible on monday, just an outright zero chance, one AD said its a hundred times worse than 2 and a half years ago.

So there it is. But you knew that anyway.

With a million watches produced each year, there are no shortages of Rolex. And with prices on the aftermarket so high, AD's want in on that game. Every AD sells hot models to grey dealers out the back door at premiums, along with a bunch of two tones to seal the deal. That's why you see tons of unworn steel sports at every grey dealer around the world. VVIP's are second, then the average guy on the wait list might be third, as they sprinkle in the average guy from time to time, hence the 2 year wait list. Thats how the AD business works brother, and it is just business. Sorry

imagine being that arrogant, that 'they express their annoyance' when hundreds of people ring them, wanting to buy their products,

they can stick their elusive products where the sun never shines.
Imagine the arrogance of customers who know that a product isn't casually available and yet phone a pile of ADs to see if one is casually available.

It's not the ADs' fault that there aren't any watches out there. Wasting their time isn't going to make watches magically appear.

Without an established relationship it is pointless calling AD's .

I was called last month after asking [ in person ] to be thought of if and when - they did

I picked up said watch and again politely requested consideration when X or Y became available

note * I mentioned Specific popular models that I would not be interested in. Effectively letting them know that I'm not likely looking to flip said watch
