It's already happened. You would be surprised how much corporations and the government know about you. I don't know about foreigners but if you are a US citizen and you ever check your Social Security you would realize Uncle Sam keeps a better record of you than your parents do.

The more important question is, "how do they remember what you are waiting for?"

I think they have so many customers waiting for this and that and this is the reason it's important to check in with them once in a while. And I think this is the reason that sometimes TRF members get lucky with being at the right place at the right time. I have purchased around 10 watches over the past few years, but I'm not anywhere near VIP status so I don't get any calls except when I got my CHNR. And I was checking with my guy like every other week on that one...

So if your SA remembers you then you're in good shape. In my case I either don't spend enough or my SA has way more bigger spenders than me. Either way, FML... haha.

My AD implanted a subcutaneous microchip in my arm that gets scanned each time I walk in the door and each time I buy a watch. When I walk in the door the sales associates are alerted in their ear piece that I am waking in, how much I have spent , how many watches I have bought , and which watches I am on the waiting list for. My beverage choice is also encoded on the chip so that the barista knows what to start preparing.

I jest, of course. Like Tyler said, if they don’t remember your name / face, database is somewhat irrelevant.

I bought my first Rolex from a local AD and actually worked through the manager on the purchase. Maybe a year later I go back to the store to talk to him about picking up an SD43, come to find out he left and took another job. From talking to one of the other reps at the AD they mentioned that it basically reset me back to 0 for my purchase history...don't agree with this but that's the reality.

That sucks. Based on that logic, if there's no record of your sale, can't your new SA say that you've purchased 5 watches? My point is, if there's no record, how can anyone verify anything?

Even a small single store family AD can now afford a CRM system that will help them serve you better.

You’ll be getting emails, flyers, phone calls, texts and carrier pigeons letting you know...no new Rolex models in store.

Did the sales process include putting your name on the warranty card and activating it by swiping the it through the card reader?

I think a talk with the new manager about that rep’s “reset back to 0” is in order. Not that you’ll be jumped to the top of any lists, but a convo about their lapse in company memory is not a conventional definition of excellence.

you are missing the internal politics of this.

Basically at my AD every sales associates has clients. They try to get watches for those clients. If your SA leaves the others dont care about you because you are not their clients. Sometimes you need the manager to get involved, but if they leave too then you are in trouble

I have seen two of the SA's basically horse trading watches that have come in among themselves.... IE ill take that X for my guy and you can have Y, and Z for yours and you get the next X that comes in. Its bonkers

Yes, that makes sense.

I have a history of 10 watches or so with my SA. If he leaves, would you say my purchase history goes to zero, or do you think whoever picks me up as their client can use my prior history to help me get something?

At Ben Bridge, there are two branches in the mall where one is a Rolex and the other is Timeworks. There is a SA at each of those branches that use my combined history to help me get certain watches. I understand thatBen Bridge is not your typical AD, but with them it sounds like your history is kept within the system, not the individual SA.

I only shop here so other AD policies are irrelevant to me but it’s interesting discussion nonetheless.

There would have to be some way of it being tracked, be it POS or something internal. I mean, I had my receipt so that wasn't the issue per say it was more so they could care less I purchased this watch from someone who has since left.

It sure did...and I had the receipt as well. I'm not sure pushing it with the new manager would have really gotten me anywhere to be honest, like you mentioned it may have helped a little but wouldn't have gotten me where I needed to be to grab the watch.

Your comment about a lapse in company memory is not a conventional definition of excellence....I probably should have mentioned that I was dealing with Turdneau

Yeah it's pretty insane the nonsense that happens at a lot of these ADs...some of the most desirable pieces go straight to the manager to determine who it's going to be sold to as well. In my case the sales person I was working with was the manager so the situation was what it was. I moved on and I'm sure the ADs long forgot about me as well.

it depends. the manager/director will want to retain you. The SA will want to put you lower on the priority list than his other regular customers as he can't please everyone and he doesnt know you. I would talk to the manager in that situation

a lot of places run the mini list system where each SA has their own list and how they get the allocation that comes in to them vs another SA, i have no idea

Interesting. I’m not that interested in getting a hard to get watch so I don’t ever get any calls. But I think part of it is that my SA has so many bigger customers than me that he never goes to bat for me so my last few purchases have been either vintage or other brands.

Look on the walls of your Dealer. You will see photos and plaques of the "Million Dollar Club" and other sales milestones.

They not only know every dime that you spent there, they know who sold you what, and when.

I’ll share two quick anecdotes.

I bought my second Rolex, 15 years after my first, at Tourneau Time Machine in NYC. Around 2012. Walked in one day, looked at it, then came back the next and bought it. Polar EXP2. Two years later, walked in with friends while walking around the city. Hadn’t been in the store since I bought the watch. The sales rep from the Rolex counter sees me walk in, walks up, and says “Helllo Mr. Xxxx”. I was blown away, as were my friends. And no, he didn’t have time to look anything up in a database. Antonio was his name.

Second story, local AD in CT. I show up looking to buy a sub. The sales rep and I get to talking, we share the same love of vintage divers. I end up looking at a bunch of things (sub, sub date, deepsea , sd4k) over the course of two weekends, including a lovely vintage SD he found for me and had shipped to the store. Bought the 4K, right after it was released, 15% off, no tax. Had never purchased anything from them before.

Point is that impression and relationship building matter most. Build rapport, find common ground, bond, treat them as an equal. If you’re just a guy who spends cash, they’re not gonna really do you too many favors.

In the UK WoS keep a centralised Customer Record Data Base at Rolex SA request, its part of there extensive checks to stop Flippers !

I had my buying history told to me by the Rolex AD in York during my first ever visit to the city centre boutique, when I enquired about a display only piece that happened to have a price tag on it.

The York SA advised me that my best option would be to be patient and wait for my main AD to come through for me.
