And it looks about 2K less cool without the GV glass and Z-blue dial.

Funny, I don’t recall the OP asking for your silly opinion about its “value.”

Very true friend. But I spent 2k more for the lightning hand

It was totally worth every extra penny

It’s a good thing not everyone buys a watch due to perceived value

It’s the very definition of a professional model.

Milgauss owners will defend it for ever

Compared to the classic design of other Rolex watches, the milgauss is considered revolutionary with its vibrant colors.
The green edge of the dial makes it unique. I read that Rolex didn't patent this idea simply because no other watch maker can do it.
It used to be available and less popular ( colors, higher price than entry models), Rolex stopped production of the white dial and no one knows if production has decreased or demand has increased, many dealers told me that they have seen the black more than blue and many didn't see the blue dial for 2 years. Still attainable but not always available.
At the end of the day, it is a personal taste, milgauss owners have decided to chose it and enjoy it. It is highly professional and more expensive than other base models for a reason.
Just enjoy, congratulations

The most important function of a watch is its ability to keep accurate time. Without that it is just a bangle on your wrist. The biggest enemy of a watches timekeeping is exposure to magnetic fields. We are all exposed to magnetic fields today at work and at home more than at any time in the past. So you could argue that the Milgauss today has the most relevant, desirable and professional feature of all. All other complications or additional timing features are just add-ons to have fun with.

According to the Rolex website the 3285 movement found in the current GMT models is also impervious to magnetic fields. I was surprised to learn this as I never see it mentioned here in the forums. The Milgauss and Air King are still very cool watches but not the only choice if magnetic fields are an issue.

If not a Professional model then what does the AD think it is? Nice watch btw.

Rolex Milgauss and Rolex SeaDweller are the only two models to have some text in the caseback. Is a professional model.

Yes, it definitely is professional. I’m a scientist (astrophysicist) so I almost use it for its intended purpose :-) It’s not a sports model though, which is probably what the AD was getting at. It might also be the only non-sports professional?

i dont see how that is possible, a non sports professional watch

professional is a sub category of sports. they are all sports (IE casual) even a DJ. more casual than a dress watch which would be the alternative.

all professional are sports, not all sports are professional. There isn't much difference between a MG, Exp, and an AK

rolex calls the DJ a "classic watch" which is fine but its still sports. classic sports then

In the UK and Australia it is also now very hard to find new at an AD. I last saw one on a shelf over 18 months ago.

Professional is a category recognised on Rolex’s website. The term “sports” is applied by the outside world for watches associated with physical activity. There probably is no agreed upon definition for that reason, but I would think most people refer to the Milgauss and DJ as non-sport.

I would agree. And I think the Milgauss is kind of in a world of it’s own. I say that in a good way, as I find the watch very appealing and unique!

As others have said, Rolex tells you on their site which watches fall into the Professional series vs the Classic series. No debate needed.

I’ve known a few radiologists who’ve chosen the Milgauss as their daily wearer— I get the mindset there, not quite how it was intended but I think the choice fits the spirit of the watch’s engineering.

In a class of its own. It’s like a perfect mix of Datejust II and 39mm Explorer. To me, it could pass as a dress watch if not for the orange bolt hand.

The most solid proof - the Milgauss is listed in the Professional section on the Rolex website...

Love the color of the glass, the color of the dial, and the color of that BA second hand! Great looking watch and pick up. Congrats!

I just picked up my Z Blue 2 weeks ago from an AD in Atlanta. All they had was it and the Air King.

Originally designed as a scientist's watch. Still has the same function, so it's a professional model.

AD sales reps are often wrong about things.

A couple years back, I was comparing a Breitling Navitimer to my Sub, and I commented how the Navitimer is actually pretty similar in size even though it's 43mm.

The sales rep then says, "the Navitimer is also 40mm." Shocking. The Navitimer model I was looking at was most certainly 43mm. At that time, Breitling didn't make a 40mm Navitimer. I don't think they do now either, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, the Milgaus is most certainly a professional watch.
