I did waver between the two with the majority of my time spent with both modern and vintage.
But that was mostly in the 5 digit era. After I picked up the DSSD on a whim, eventually they were all moved on one after the other. |

I wear my SD4K/SD43/LVc/Daytona/Explorer a lot, but sometimes I go on a kick wearing older pieces.
Switched between these two today just because: Rocked this guy yesterday. I can’t ever decide whether modern/vintage or those in between are my favorites. Depends on the day. |

I used to flip flop. But I flip my watches too often and people ask too many hard questions when I sell vintage.

All of the Rolex watches I bought new are now creeping toward the vintage classification, but are not quite there yet. They are a 114270, a 116200-63600, a 14060M, and a 116710BLNR. I currently also have a 1503, a 16570L, and a 16253 that are decidedly vintage. The 16253 (#902xxxx) is now on its way to LA WatchWorks for an estimate on a restoration, keeping it as original as possible. I bought it to help out a friend who wore it, but also neglected it, so it deserves some love. I wish I had taken some pictures before I sent it off, but I could barely stand to touch it.

My newest watches are Seiko. My latest, date wise, is my 14060M coach nd. Bought new when first came out. My others all date from 70’s and very early 80’s.

I think I’m just a bit immature in my complete lack of interest in vintage watches. Modern are made better, stronger, more innovations, etc. I see beauty in vintage pieces, but the beauty (patina, age, etc) was earned by someone else. One day my watches may be vintage, and I believe at that point I’ll appreciate it more.
I do think the 16710 has more charm than nearly any Rolex ever made. However I’d rather own a 126710. Same with Subs. I wouldn’t trade my 116610ln for any other Sub (money aside). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I am mainly a vintage guy but I, also, have one or two modern pieces for when I need the perks of a new sport model. What I mean by this is a strong bracelet and water tightness.
So, my 2 cents: do not sell the Hulk, keep it. Its a hot model that it is hard to get and, also, as a modern Rolex it compliments perfectly a vintage piece. You can find plenty of nice vintage watches, Rolex and non-Rolex. Unless you are after a very hot model (Subs, GMTs, Daytonas)....you do not need to spend a fortune on a vintage piece. A vintage DJ or a DD would compliment beautifully your Hulk. Also, you have the option of other brands vintage and the sky is your limit when it comes to choices.

Yes, I seesaw between them...
I buy a modern, then I buy a vintage... then I buy a modern, then I buy a vintage.... (it's a disease this hobby.... Mostly, I blame TRF) But seriously, I enjoy both. In your case... if it were me, Id keep that hulk and wait until the time is right to add the snowflake |

A lot to enjoy from vintage for sure. I feel like a lot of people fear/avoid them due to the research and knowledge it requires for that peace of mind......to me personally, that's just part of the fun in doing the work and enjoying the hunt for the right example personalized for me. Anyone can buy a modern Rolex that's mass manufactured....just a matter of pricing (AD or grey pending on opportunity). That said there are definitely modern pieces I enjoy....but it's all about the journey and uniqueness on vintage pieces IMO.

Agree with sensui. I have 4 and 6 digit collection both Rolex and Tudor. I wear vintage daily (just amazing to enjoy a mechanical timepiece > 50 years old) and 6 digit when I travel .

I'm a vintage guy. I enjoy the 4 and 5 digit Rolex/Tudor serials. I like my old leather briefcase and decades old ink, fountain pens and pencils. Love my "way old" Wayfarers as well.
I admire the technological advancements in modern items but, I'll retain my old stuff and long as it works. That old Tudor Submariner (black face/bezel with bracelet) strapped on the wrist as I grab by old briefcase filled with good old writing insturments and throw on the Ray Bans to head off for the day.....well, it's just me.

My older Sub (1680) and GMT are always in my rotation. I just had both of them overhauled to assure their water tightness. My older models are not better than the newer models but they have a lot more memories associated with them.
