I was given one as a gift by the wife last Xmas. I really tried to like it but I could never wrap my head around a perceived smart that was as fundamentally disposable as a cellphone or laptop and I hated it...so I passed it on to my 12 daughter who thinks it’s cool.

This. Not for me but I gave my GF a smart watch last xmas and it never leaves her wrist. She loves it (the model I picked has goes at least 2 weeks on a charge. Daily charging would have been a no-go for her)

But it really is the perfect tool for her. She had a nice gold watch that her dad gave her and basically destroyed the finish because she works in a lab. Constant exposure to bleach as a disinfectant. She also can't take her cell phone into some labs (security and a cleanliness thing. When doing some lab work they don't want you to touch anything but the samples you are working on). But a smart watch lets her know if she got an important call or text and she can scrub out if she did. So it really is a great tool for her work.

I prefer my mechanicals but I do like the always on display feature of the Series 5.

Your final point, though, "Can’t ever imagine that replacing any Rolex for me for even a nanosecond." I couldn't agree with that more. For me, it was for two different things - active and everything else. The apple and garmin are more durable and better for activities. Everything else - rolex checks all the boxes and more.

100% to everything you said, which is why I caved! Love my Rolex but find myself needing a light weight alternative on my wrist, which as a bonus, has tons of useful applications! It is not a watch, rather a mini watered down computer on the wrist. However, it tells the time, is durable, useful and makes sense when a Rolex just doesn’t. On the flip side, a Rolex is where my heart is, and has its place when an Apple Watch just wont do.

Does anyone here realize, that these smart watches are a source of unhealthy electrosmog?
What I love about automatic movements like Rolex is there is NO battery, no electricity
and no negative side effects on the body.
I would never wear one mainly for this reason, but also I really really dislike the look.

They’re great pieces of kit but they’re not especially robust as beaters. Screen is softer than sapphire. Great for staying connected in certain situations though. Mines a 3.

I understand the Smart watch trend. It is not for me as I prefer to be less connected, not more. Watches are my hobby and the Smart watches have never found a place inside that hobby.

I have an Apple Watch. It will never take the place of any of my Rolexes. I use it strictly for long trail runs or mountain bike rides. I don’t have to carry my phone and I can be in contact with my office or family should I need to make a quick call. Plus I get all the heart rate data, etc.

Never, my phone does just fine in my pocket. I don't need some other hunk of plastic to charge every night and run software updates and replace every 2 or 3 years. No thank you, I'll stick with mechanical for my wrist

I mean Apple creates something that does everything your phone does, ties you to your phone more closely because the screen is too small to actually do any work, and yet another device to charge, and emits how much radiation. That’s a hard pass for me. And don’t get me started on the so called health benefits, please. Time in the gym, what’s on your plate, and the good ole bathroom scale does just fine. 99% of the new Apple watches will be in the trash bin at the next Apple announcement.

I have not worn any of my mechanical watches since the Apple watch Gen 1 I then sold the Gen 1 so I could go back to my watches but that didn't last long and I subsequently purchased a Gen 2. I have my house alarm, CCTV and other apps all buzzing my wrist. Don't think I would cope without an Applewatch/Smartwatch now.

I tried a few times, mostly for workout purposes. Wearing it day to day.. no way. I get far too many notifications. The last time i wore one in my office, i took it off within 5 minutes of being there. Internal messages, emails, calls, it was super annoying and not helpful. They are extremely comfortable however. Apple really figured out that rubber strap, it’s lovely.
