You are overthinking this OP. People are generally too preoccupied with their own issues to notice the watches we wear. I use my own experience as I interact with multiple patients a day and have never received a comment about my choice of watch. If you choose to get the Rolex. Do so and wear it proudly. Your choices in life should not be determined by what others think.

If you have sentimental value attached to the Tudor due to a life event, only you can decide if you are willing to part with it.

My advice is if you are not in a financial position to fund another watch without consequence, you should probably wait until conditions are more favorable

Have a wife who is a teacher, I’d happily buy her a Rolex if she wanted one... It’s up to the person what they like and can afford. If someone else can’t reach that conclusion it is their loss for judging.

I say go for it OP. That’s a perfect watch to fly under the radar in that environment.

#1: For my part, I don't think I could part w/a watch that was a "milestone watch" I was that sentimentally attached to. If you are not that attached to the watch, then no problem.

#2: I think you are overthinking what other people/students will think & 16570 will also mostly fly under the radar, especially a black dial; the white dial might get more notice just b/c white dial watches are much less common.

If I met my kid's teacher at parent night and he was wearing an EXP II I'd complement him on his wise choice. For a vice-principal/admin, I think only a PM model would get any notice from me (not even a TT).

I think I'd say that you should keep saving for the watch until you actually get the promotion, then make that 16570 your next "milestone watch" & keep 'em both.

I know kids are smart, even though the Expll flies under the radar to most it still has eye appeal. Being its SS and not flashy I dont think you should be self conscious about it at all. I have the same Blue eta as you, it's a great piece and a Polar as well. I'm sure you'd really appreciate and enjoy making that move to the Expll.

My sister in law is a teacher and just got promoted to vice principal (public high school). She has been wearing a Rolex for years, no issue as far as I know.

Rock it and enjoy it! You wont be the only teacher wearing an explorer

I would love that. That's pretty much a perfect 1-2 combo. The full story, really, is that my wife will murder me if I get a second expensive watch :) She gave me crap when I rotated 3-4 cheapies.

You deserve it.
Wear it proud and don't worry about what other people think.

Don't worry, no one will notice your Rolex.
Correction: very, very few people will notice your Rolex.

There is a difference between the Explorer and an iced up President. Any SS Rolex and the flak should be minimal. Teachers deserve a nice time piece more than most.

Here are 3 things you can say:

1. "My grandfather (or other relative) passed it down to me."
- I like this one, bc they don't usually follow up with "are you rich?" If they do, you can say they are rich, not you.

2. "It's a replica, got it as a souvenir while traveling."
- Though lesser men may take a hit on their egos, you can continue to fly under the radar.

Years ago, I met one of the Saudi shikhs in Egypt. One of his directors was wearing an ALS pour le merit. I saw the tourbillon and ALS logo and told him "nice watch," he lifted his wrist so I can see it, and he says, "yeah it's fake." I said, "really?!" He nodded. Then as the shikh was leaving, this guy winked at me.

3. "I saved up for years for this. Cost less than a car or a vintage violin and I'm not as into cars and I don't play the violin."
- encourage the idea of saving?

However I wouldn't sell the watch I bought to commemorate son's birth. I'd pass it on as a birthyear watch.

Keep the BB if it has sentimental value. Save a bit and wait, then buy the Rolex to add to the collection. Wear it proudly. You worked hard and bought what you wanted. Don't ever worry about what others think.

Dude!

Im a math teacher at a public school and wear my watch daily.

The kids hardly notice it, and if they do, they think you’re cool and then forget about it

During parent night over had two conversations about watches with two different guys

One wore a Cartier tank and the other a JC deep sea.

Buy it and enjoy it!

You deserve it

(I would know)

Super below the radar watch --- I would totally go for it and enjoy it. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. This Rolex is actually perfect for you.

Who cares what people think. its none of their business. I am in construction and I have had a couple of clients comment about my rolex with the "wow you must charge a lot to have that watch" and the simple answer is "nope. my prices are competitive with the market as you will see. My watches are a result of good investments in both the investment markets and real estate developments and not funded from my daily work income"

I also find it funny how people will judge on a watch. for example I can pull up to a meeting in a hybrid toyota (40,000 CDN) and the other party may show up in a full load completely rigged out Ford F350 (90,000 CDN) yet they see the watch and comment I must charge a lot. point is people don't stop to think that everyone spends their money differently. Sure some can afford it all but many cannot and just because one person spends more on a watch and the other spends more on the car should not be a reflection of how you should treat them.

I pretty much echo what is said above, and maybe a few other possible comments too.

Anyway - even if someone does notice, so what. It really isn't anyone's business other than your own. You do not need to feel self-conscious about anything you (honestly) obtain in life.

If it were me I would keep the BB and save a bit longer for the Explorer II. Just my opinion. As far as what you should wear, whatever you like. Not many people will notice, and if they do it doesn't matter anyway. If you were my kids' teacher I would be more interested on how you implement your teaching plan and how well you interact with the kids. As far as I'm concerned, you work hard and deserve to treat yourself.

Honestly the explorer ii flys so under the radar it looks less like a Rolex then the black bay. I had one with a black face for 4 years and not one person ever said anything about it or even knew it was a Rolex. So I think you have that working for you. I’m sure the BB is nice because you bought it when you became a father but unless you plan on giving it to your kid then get the Rolex. Just know that is a watch that fly’s under every radar but the WIS. Honestly I’d save a little more and get the submariner. Kind of getting the vibe your looking at the explorer ii because it’s the cheapest of the professional range. But from past experience I regretted not buying the sub and it was a very expensive mistake. A submariner will also hold its value a lot better and will always be in style. If I’m wrong get the explorer ii and don’t look back.

Had a few teachers when i was in school that wore Rolex.

My old headmaster Harry D was an old salty sea dog, ex WW11 MTB and wore a battered Sub. He could reduce kids to quivering wrecks just by a look. Yet one of the kindest people you could meet. Just didn't suffer fools. Went everywhere with his 2 Black Labradors.

Used to regularly see Harry D well into his 80's. Always called him Sir or by his full surname, even when he used to say call me Harry you make me feel old.

Deputy head wore an Explorer, cool watches and cool people.

I always knew Rolex from being little with my Dad having one and it just seemed to reinforce, that if you stick in then rewards are there to get.

So my advice is get it, you deserve it and it may just inspire the kids even just 1 to stick in at school and achieve something with their lives.

I am a school teacher.

I wear three different Daytona’s to work and a sub no date.

Keep the BB. You will miss that watch and later regret.

Save for the Rolex and don't give it a second thought on wearing to school. As my dear dad always said, "if you go around worrying about what others think of you or how you dress...you'll have a miserable life."
