How much cheap can you pick up a DSSD and does it require a lot of maintenance?

Maintenance is the standard 5 year service performed by Rolex Technician, either thru Rolex US, or a your local AD. Some AD's send it to the closest Rolex service center, but only when your local AD doesn't have an onsite Tech. |

I am thinking about buying one but how big is your wrist?
Mines like 6.35 inch or so |

This thread is about 2 years old, but the Deepsea hasn't gotten any smaller!
You should try it on, it's a top heavy, chunky watch, a 6.3" wrist seems too small to me, but try it on anyway. For your wrist a Sub C might be a better fit. |

In reading posts regarding the DSSD, the watch seems to be a love/hate attractor.
The first pictures I saw of it, I knew I wanted it. Three years later I saw my first one in person. Left the AD to have lunch, came back and bought it. That was a month ago. Right now I can't think of ANY watch I'd rather have. How many other things (cars, houses....) can you say that about? So my TT Sub blue is retired. The DSSD reminds me of how I thought my first Sub ('85) looked on my wrist. |

I don't dislike the Deepsea, though I do poke fun at it sometimes, :).
For me, there were only 2 Rolexes I was interested in, the Deepsea and the SubSea. :). I chose the Sub and love it. But, if there weren't a Sub C, I'd still happily wear a Deepsea, faults and all. But, the fellow with the 6.3" wrist might really look silly wearing a DS. |

My Deepsea has a better glidelock than my blue sub, and is easily just as comfortable. ONly downside of the DSSD IMO is that when putting your hand, the one with the watch on....it sometimes is a tight fit in a narrow space....as the watch comes high off the wrist.
No regrets ! |

i think wrist size is less this issue with the DSSD...i think it has more to do with the thickness of your entire forearm...its the thickness of the watch that i think can cause problems - if your arm/wrist/hand area is not big enough (as mine is not) it can look a little hockeypucklike...
but the thing is a TANK...there is something about it that appeals to my animal instincts! |

Don't be fooled by the bracelet. Resized properly and a few links taken out not only do you have a killer watch, you also have a super comfy one
Long live the DSSD

I tried it on this week. It's just too tall for my tastes. It was a beauty though!

I know some people really dig the SDDS, but even if I had bigger wrists I couldn't handle wearing the watch with its dainty bracelet. Don't know why Rolex didn't see fit to bump it up to 22mm. |

If you like it get it, who cares what others think. As long as you like it that's what is important. I for one don't have big wrists but I love it. It's your $$ buy what you like.

Yeah, the bracelet IS too small......
....but it's still one of the very coolest watches ever and I love wearing it when I feel like making a bit of a statement. The case/hands/dial/crown/lume/clasp are so awesome I don't really pay much mind to the somewhat out-of-scale bracelet.
Agree with others above: you love it or you hate it; i LOVE it. |

I agree with the OP and the many others about the ill-proportioned bracelet width at the case....had ROLEX followed the balance of case/bracelet as they did on the ExpI - now that would have been a killer timepiece! imho...
