I agree with this too. I was thinking this one or champagne dial and two tone.

Although, the two tone champagne dial seems like more of a classic, popular model to me...

The SS jubilee silver stick dial seems more timeless although less popular

There is a difference

Heres mine. Rose gold TT, love it to bits. Its from 1976 if i remember correctly. Bought it for $600 from the Al Rashid hotel in Baghdad in 2004

However i do have a soft spot for blue dials and have been toying with maybe getting a SS with blue dial 36mm

TT champagne dial close second, but that is more iconic than timeless. I think that configuration is very much of a particular time.

For me it was a 1982 SS DJ, Jubilee, Machine Turned Bezel, black dial and stick markers (my father's watch). Growing up seeing this watch daily is what got me into Rolex.

Splendid!

Really classy.

Even better than with a flutted bezel, I think.

I agree with this, but also adding no diamonds and stick dial. It’s the essence of Rolex.

I don't think that you can get much more classic than this. When I think of Rolex this is what pops into my mind.

Another vote for the TT DJ with fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet and champagne dial. Close 2nd for me would be the same with a white dial. But really any TT or SS DJ is awesome and classic/iconic if it has a fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.

TT, fluted, champagne dial is the most iconic Rolex let alone Date just in my opinion.

Sorry, the most classic Datejust config is 36mm, silver or white dial, on the Oyster bracelet, then toss a coin for fluted bezel or not.

I have been lusting after this particular configuration of the DJ for a while and actually picked one up NEW from my AD yesterday afternoon. This means that I may be just a little biased on this subject ;-P
So, how about some pictures of this watch, the one you have been lusting after and picked up new?

For me the 36 is too small so I would go for the 41, SS jubilee, smooth and rhodium sunburst.

Very nice combination which would be in contention for not only my vote but also a configuration that I would consider for my next Rolex. Unfortunately the new DJ 41 doesn't have the same white dial but still looks good.

Actually the dial on this one is silver. Hard to tell in lighting. Here’s another shot
