Understood.

Just saying it’s unlikely you will get much support for the omega here.

Personally, I think the speedy is one of the best, most comfortable watches ever.

I tried the DD. It didn’t stick. Still have my speedy tho. That one won’t leave.

You're wasting the other members' time. Grow up child! On adult life you will hear all sort of things, not only good. If you are not prepared to receive negative terms, just say nothing. Since your first post you fantasized from buying a a gold DD, through a watch for your father to an speedy now. Do not expect to be taken seriously behaving like this. Most forumers are adults and educated enough to asnswer your questions; don't use their time without having any serious doubt. .

I think the fact that the Omega is half the price is really making it attractive, I've been there myself and ultimately it is best to buy what you truly love, so I'd take some time out and decide on which watch you love the most, take the price out of it.

Speedy is a great watch. Not entirely sure it offers great value for money, but I think every collection should have one and it’s the watch I recommend to people more than any other.

The DD he's looking for is going to be on that's 2000 or older this is a bit of a challenge in and of itself, why? Because any Rolexs that are that old including their steel professional series will have a lot more play in the band. Since you're looking at the DD however as you know it's made of 18K a very soft metal so making it even more challenging to find one in good condition. I'm not saying it's impossible. Also with that particular model you have issues like bracelets that aren't original to the watch either being completely aftermarket i.e not from Rolex or just from a different Rolex DD. You can find originals that are matching but it will definitely run you more than $10,000 especially if you're looking for something in good condition. It may be closer to the $13,000 range. Keep in mind it will be 36MM not 40MM or 41. Also with watches this old you run into the issue of provenance. Is it stolen, can it be sent into Rolex for service etc. Lastly the older DD had an array of different dials some particular collectors love. Some just want to say that they have a gold Rolex. Regardless of what is driving you to the DD just know what you're buying.

The particular Omega reference you gave is for a "limited" edition Moonwatch Speedmaster. If you like the aesthetics of that particular model Omega you get get on for less than 3000 in great condition and with box & paperwork which is what I always prefer when purchasing a watch for my collection.

If you like the size of the older DD then you can go with and older Speedmaster which I believe we're around the 39MM size? I could be wrong don't quote me on that.

As someone who has made this mistake, I agree completely. I say buy the day-date and save for the omega if that is the case.

But what you love.

Don’t spend double to buy a daydate if you really want a Speedmaster.

This applies the other way tooo...

Don’t buy a Speedmaster just to save 6k if you really want a daydate

The plot thickens; from a Day-Date to a Speedmaster.

Both are great watches....DD is dressy...Speedy is sporty...two diff looks.

Currently, do you need a sport watch more than you need a dress watch?

There is your answer.

wasting other members time?

that's the theme of Internet forums.

a bit harsh, was your comment, imho. I'd personally expect you won't be around too long.

The Day-Date and the Speedmaster are fantastic watches in their own right. It's nice that you like both of them, especially considering they are both vastly different. You should get both eventually. They would complement each other nicely.

If you can't swing getting them both, just get the nicest version you can find or afford for one of them now. Save to do the same for the other one down the road.

Go with the Day Date. If you can get one at only double the price of a Speedster (regardless of model) it's a deal. Two completely different watches. For me with respect to chronographs it's Patek, Lange, Rolex or nothing. Column wheel and vertical clutch like this guy below....perhaps a Speedy with Calibre 321 if you must do a Speedy

Thanks fpr your comment. Im looking at the 36 as i think its more lowkey and nicer than the bigger version that yells look at me. I want the watch because i will enjoy it very much and i appreciate the history of it.

Will this be your primary watch? I love Speedmasters, but they are not good primary watches. Having to manually wind is annoying, and they aren't easy to wind. They aren't very water proof, so you have to be wary. They are a little big, so they don't work well with a suit IMO. Great rotational pieces, but I wouldn't own one if I planned to wear it more than a couple times a week.

Yeah the manual wind is a little annoying but thats why i would prefer the 006 (can see through the case back) that at least i get an advantage out of the manual wind

If I were in high school/college, and I wore a Day-Date around, I would be known as "the kid who wears a gold Rolex. I'd be a walking target.

If wore a Speedmaster, I'd be known as the "guy who likes cool watches." And I'd be a target for enthusiasts more so than a target for theft.

See, both are fantastic, iconic watches from fantastic, iconic brands. You'll end up buying a nice watch either way. But at 17, the Rolex Day-Date is going to make more of a bold statement- and I'm not sure it's a wise one.

Many here think that the recent appeal of that Speedmaster is nothing more than a distraction. Personally, I see it as a test in your desire for that Day-Date. Maybe wait a month or so and revisit the matter.

In your shoes, though, it'd be a no-brainer: I'd get the Speedy, given where you are in life.

And if the debate comes to functionality, keep in mind that the Speedmaster has a timer. The Day-Date can tell you the day of the week... idk, is that something you normally forget?

Actually manual wind is lot of fun. I love winding mine it's like petting. I even wind my automatic watches after setting the time date GMT zone etc. For me Speedmaster is steeping stone for any collection. It's a must have watch either you get it now or later on.

a speedmaster is a great watch but isn't anywhere near the same league as the day date. if you really wanted a day date all this time i'm not sure how you could be wanting a speedmaster

when i wanted a day date it was all i wanted and nothing else would come close

If you have fallen in love with the Omega, buy it for 40% of the DD.

If you fall out of love with the Omega, flip it and find another love story.

Spot on. But you are not a true DD man if you can fall in love with that Omega, therefore stay clear and flirt with Omega.

OP is distracted. Suggest to stand back and sleep it over as buying Speedmaster may satisfy your emotional needs right now but very soon, you'll be back hunting the Rolex again.

It's a never ending cycle, bud.
