I’m In the Datejust 36 camp (and minority it would seem) despite having wrists over 8”. Don’t know if it’s growing up seeing dad and grandpa wearing classically sized watches or what but just seems “right” to me. To OPs point, going back to my 126200 after a few days with a 44mm seiko diver does take a bit of reorientation.

Tony soprano wore a DD36. Watch an old episode and you’ll see how it falls on his huge wrist. A 40/41 DD would have looked odd I think.
Do love them tho.

My OP 34 was my first Rolex. I bought it, thankfully, before I joined this forum. If I hadn't I might have succumbed to the seemingly prevalent theme that bigger is better.
But I like my 34 just fine when I wear it. Just as much as my YM 37, the 268622. |

If I was buying a DJ today I would still buy the 36mm over the larger one.

I wish the new DJ36 came in rhodium or slate dial and more roman numeral options. Not sure why they stopped that?

I prefer 36mm because I like to see some bracelet instead of all watch head.

The opposite happened to me a few years back. Now I won't wear anything less than 40mm. It all boils down to perception and perceptions change.

My old one in reference is rhodium with Roman numerals, domed bezel. I love it. Sadly the new DD 40 romans do not quite play as well as the older style romans IMHO

I have to agree, ended up getting 2x 36mm DJs.
1x TT YG with jubilee 1x SS WG with oyster You have no idea how many years I've debated between SS DJ vs: 36mm Explorer 36mm OP 39mm Explorer 40mm Airking. It came down to the traditional look: 1) gotta have flute bezel 2) gotta have the cyclone lense 3) must be 36mm |

Wear what you like, but if comments are not something you look for, why comment on them? Lol.

I have about a 7.5" wrist and I wear anything from my dad's 33cm Omega Constellations to a 43mm SD and a few Oris that are 43.5-45mm and they are all fine. It's all perspective. I wear the watch, it doesn't wear me. If some joker doesn't like it, well it sucks to be them.

Agree with your sentiment. Think you misread what I wrote though.

I was very dismissive of the DJ36 prior to buying one, partly because I read some of the ridiculous comments here about smaller size watches.
Once I actually opened my eyes a bit and spent some time trying them on I realised I was completely wrong. My first foray into smaller watches was my vintage 36mm Grand Seiko 45GS. I now wear this most days at work as it's so easy to wear. Once I had adjusted to this size I then realised the DJ36 was the right watch for my wrist. The DJ41 looked like a dinner plate in comparison. I think because it's all dial. My 40mm sub wears perfectly on the other hand. I think a lot of people will be influenced by daft comments from people on smaller sized watches. I'm not a small guy, but I wear the DJ36 with complete confidence. In fact I wore it to a pool day the other week instead of my Sub and it felt great. If you're the type of person that gets conscious about these things and can only wear the 'manly' size then fair enough, however those wearers are likely dismissing many many great watches. |

Obviously 99% of the world’s population don’t know this.
Or they would wear one.

Could be the downsize trend, I lately find my 33mm Royal Oak wears just nice! Lots of compliments too. In person the 33mm RO looks and feels like a 36-37mm.

I am 7.75 to 8in wrist depending on the temperature. I do love the 36mm but it just looks to small on my wrist..

Totally different watches.
There's no legitimate comparison That would likely account for the responses from others. |

For me the below comparison shows that I could get used to smaller ones but still feel that 42mm fits me just fine.

As someone who can sport both, I also prefer 36mm over 40mm for comfort.
A lot of the incoming threads here show watches that are obviously too big for the wearer (usually Submariners and GMTs). |

After sticking with 40-42mm watches, I have recently learned that 36-38mm is the ideal size for me. indeed it is more comfy
