I agree with your sentiment, spot on!

The WG 42mm Yachtmaster may be my favorite Rolex of all - I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they weren't quite so spendy.

For all the people saying the Oysterflex is just rubber is simply wrong. The guts are titanium. Educate yourself. Also, the strap is custom sized to your wrist.

Love the OF on my WG Daytona. Really wish it came with a Glidelock clasp though.

Those are exactly the things I hate about it. I wish it had just been plain rubber like everyone else does. They solved a problem nobody had.

Do you know what happens to a damaged rubber strap securing a pm Rolex? A lost pm Rolex. Can you guess what would happen to a damaged oysterflex with titanium inside the rubber? You're still gonna have that Rolex.

How Many Have been disapointed with OysterFlex?

OysterFlex straps $270 ea

AD said That straps should be replaced every 2 years or so.

Both OysterFlex longitudinal fins began to tear on one side of the YM

I've never had that issue with any of my rubber strap watches. And brands like AP and Patek trust their more expensive watches to regular old rubber straps. In the real world it's just not a problem at all.

Not my cup of tea I prefer bracelet. Rubber keeps moisture from evaporating.

That’s exactly where I land.

Any time I’ve worn a rubber strap, it’s fun for about a day, and then I’m ready to go back to the bracelet

Give me a metal bracelet any day of the week. Steel, Gold or Platinum don't care.

Sadly, you're going to get opinions from people who've never owned anything on Oysterflex. They were disappointed before even trying it.

In my case, I owned one, and I'll buy another one if the 42mm YM comes out in everose. But I don't like the design and execution of it, and I think it's pointless. I'll tolerate it because precious metal watches on rubber straps are my thing, but I wish it had been done better.

However, my sales guy says everything on oysterflex sells immediately, so Rolex has clearly met a need in the market.

Yup, and I wasn't referencing those who have owned Oysterflex and were in fact disappointed. But, I've seen a lot of posts from those who haven't, which was the point I was (jokingly) making.

I see similar arguments for sports cars when it comes to alcantara vs leather. "Alcantara is a cheaper material, it doesn't belong on a 100k+ car", etc. It's so ridiculous and missing the point, just like with rubber straps on watches. As if the $25 of raw materials between a rubber strap and a leather strap matters at all, or the minimal cost difference in raw materials between leather and alcantara.

My issues with the OF are purely functional, not philosophical, but you are very correct that many don't even get to that point and just stick to their old fashioned prejudices.

Like a few here, I wore my wife's YM for a day, and what I realized is that initially the Oysterflex is softer and more comfortable, and makes me happy...

Then, after a few minutes to hours, It is so comfortable, I barely know it's there.

After a day of wear, and going back to the 116505 RG Daytona, the Daytona Heft is immediately noticeable.

Shortly after wearing, I notice that it feels like your wearing a really special watch whereas the Oysterflex feels kinda numb and clunky, and relaxing because you dont have to worry about scratches or where your resting your arm.

So, will I trade into or add an Oysterflex...

Definitely, Maybe!

ROLEX has confined to me that their concern is that their customers will develop a rubber fetish, and will need to wear OF while performing intimate acts. Rolex has a psychologist who advises them on this kind of risk. A similar risk got out of control when customers were using Daytonas to time their performances. This did not make Rolex happy.

I’m extremely dissatisfied with it.

I wish they would discontinue it.
