- "irregardless" - not a word. It's just "regardless".
- "Strawman" - in reference to a project
- "The fact of the matter is..". Really, how about it's just your opinion?

I will think of more, but for now that's a start.

Well, here are a couple that are popular in my area:

The good Lord willing and the creek don't rise... (hope I got that one right)

and

Bless his heart. (this one I don't get, because sometimes it's said at odd times)

Ditto Carolina and Lisa! My pet peeve is the word "irregardless". It drives me crazy. I know it's in the dictionary, which even states that it's the word most frequently commented on with "there's no such word" even though there is.

The word makes me cringe, so I know exactly how you feel!

What I mean is, I was a smartass and corrected your last sentence, not realizing you had goofed it up on purpose! Then, really embarrassed, I had to go back and delete my correction, hoping no one had seen it. I am such a dork!

So, how's about its and it's? IT is its own animal; it's crazy!

Nice southern ladies will say bless his heart instead of saying what a dumba**.
Edit: I should know I've heard it all my life.

Craig, that saying came from a movie called" In like Flint". It was a parody on secret agent movies such as James Bond!!!
Nancy , Thanx for setting me straight!!!

The expression originated with reference to Errol Flynn's statutory rape charge, but became increasingly popular with the release of the 1967 James Coburn "super spy" movie In Like Flint.

Well, this clears it up, then. Most times I hear it said, I sense the "dumba**" vibe, but hear "bless his heart" with a sweet smile!

I think this will make everyone mad at me because it's used here a lot.... but "I'm going to pull the trigger on a (insert item here)."

Enough! Sheesh!

Which reminds me: "a lot" is two words. "Alot" isn't a word!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Pour les membres francais . . . Qu'est-ce que avec l'expression idiomatique, "Un bon rat un bon chat?"

(For the French members . . . What's with the idiomatic expression, "A good rat a good cat?")

You know how certain words or expressions become trendy for a while? I can't stand the expression "partnered" as in this company partnered with that one to bring you . . .
Why do people insist on making verbs out nouns? Drives me nuts!
